Attn CGC!! A Couple Q's

12 posts in this topic

I was curious, what do you do with the comics you get in that are sent through Economy? Do they just sit in a vault for a while? Are they stacked? Do they get moved around much? I haven't had any problems, I was just wondering what my comics do while sitting around your place for a couple months.

Also, I unfortunately have found one of my comics has a hand written in blue ink date "stamp". Do you take off more grade-wise written vs stamped? Thx

Er....isn't there an ASK CGC forum around here somewhere?

If I dissappear after posting this comment.......please tell my family that I love them. frown.gif

I think the "Ask CGC" section is a bit lacking. Once you enter a question there, it doesn't actually show up until it's been "approved" and they've deemed it worthy of answering. It has to be of enough "general interest" to the public as a whole before they'll consider answering it.

I posted a question in there once.....but alas.....nothing. frown.gif

I hope Cgc's vault is set up like a fortress or like Heritage Auction's home base. Bullet proof glass, magnetic stripe security passes to access doors, security guards. Why spend 20 yrs building a Timely collection, if u & your buds could hit the cgc vault & walk off w/ all the Timely's being slabbed for the next Heritage auction?

My friend has been there on MANY occassions. CGC's facilities are set up like a petting zoo with a slight difference. The local comic collecting yokels, drawn by the hundreds, each and every day, are free to enter and tour the facilities for a small service charge, and are free to stay, even when CGC closes for the evening! Don't worry, a strict honor system is practiced. During operating hours, the comics that are submitted for grading may be RENTED by the hour to those that visit the facilities either before slabbing, during slabbing (at which point they may assist with the grading and encapsulation if they so choose), or after the slabbing. The hourly rental rate is based on a percentage of the book's value. grin.gif

Valued based on what - Overstreet, ebay, Heritage? This is a MAJOR problem with CGC, and frankly, if they do not start renting their books out based on value tiers instead of absolute values, then I'm going to stop renting them! mad.gif

This is by far the best part of the tour. Last time I went, I rented a Fantastic Four #1 and pulled a Raph-Fiennes-as-Francis-Dollaryhde-in-the-movie-Red-Dragon by EATING the cover off the comic! It was worth every percentage point I paid. Last time I went I wanted to rent an Amazing Fantasy 15 and just take a bite off the side, but they didn't have any in for grading. ooo.gifooo.gif

I went there one time and took the "executive tour". The highlight of this special tour was seeing Steve's living quarters. Did you know, they only let him out for Conventions and Dead shows? Anyways, his room looked very similar to the Magneto jail cell in the X-men movie. We were told not to look him directly in the eyes, as it might drive him into a frenzy! I was quickly escorted out of the building and banned for life when I broke the other cardinal rule "Don't tap the glass". frown.gif
