Yes, but within the context of the original story.

I totally got ya...but if we did get a true Director's cut issue...wouldn't that just throw all hope of maintaining continuity out the window?

Not necessarily, most times the scenes or ending are changed from the Directors Cut to the final cut because of timing or continuity purposes. The scenes just aren't integral to the story.

You know, an excellent example of a Director's Cut idea in comic books is Phoenix: The Untold Story.

 

This was actually how X-Men 137 was *supposed* to end (including the first page of an alternate X-Men 138), before Shooter made them change it.
