The first Canadian Golden Age Comic: Better Comics # 1 GRAIL ACQUIRED

Thanks Dwight and the others for your kind words...

To answer Human Torch, I currently own roughly 475 Canadian Whites and there is speculation that roughly 750 total issues were printed, hence I still need roughly 300 issues to have every true homegrown Canadian "white"

Thanks.

If you PM me your list I will keep my eyes open for books you need at Western Canada conventions.

I do not have a list. Mostly in memory.

Link to my thread showing scans of most of my vast collection:

http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=225652&Number=4859785#Post4859785

My focus is the Canadian Golden Age books with Black and White interiors

That being said, I am seeking the following titles and publishers:

Bell Features Publishing (Toronto):

1. Triumph Comics

2. Wow Comics

3. Commando Comics

4. Dime Comics

Maple Leaf Publishing (Vancouver)

1. Better Comics

2. Rocket Comics

3. Bing Bang Comics

4. Lucky Comics

F.E. Howard ( Toronto)

1. Black Hood Comics

2. Super Comics

Educational Projects (Montreal):

1. Canadian Heroes

And Of course any oddball Canadian GA books

Congratulations. It's very nice to see such rare books ending up with people like you and BOOT who will share them and their history so enthusiastically. That's what makes it worth coming here.

Just back from CGC :whee:

Very nice! Interesting that the CGC label does not note that it's Canadian.....

Overheard at CGC...

Receiving Dept. Manager - "Hey, we just got a package from Stephen."

Data Input Manager - "Oh no. What is it."

RDM - "I don't know. Some weird ."

DIM - "Well maybe someone in the grading department will know."

Places call to Grading Dept.

DIM - "Hey. We got some crazy book I've never seen before."

Grader - "Stephen?"

DIM - "Obviously."

Grader - "Well send it over. They didn't catch on last time. We'll act like we know what is going on, encapsulate it, and get it outta here. Nobody will be the wiser."

a) there is no reason to - this is not a Cdn variant of a US publication.

b) I think the LARGE MAPLE LEAF with CANADA'S OWN in the ULC might give the buyer a TINY CLUE? :baiting:

Tsp99 is correct.

It should say "Canada" on the label so buyers/sellers know it is not a US comic.

It would only say "Canadian edition" on the label if there were also a US edition.

Congrats on your find Stephen ( I missed this thread before).

I only recently saw this cover online for the first time, a small B&W reproduction. Its "better" to see it in full color! Love the crudeness of it... I have no idea what's happening on the cover. Great stuff.

Did you take any photos of the interior before you got it entombed? :wishluck:

Awesome book, and I could actually see something like this happening. It must actually be a bit exciting for the graders to see a book they've likely never seen before. Can't happen very often.
