What's the 1st Full Darkseid?

39 posts in this topic

As far as i'm aware none of these books have it written on the CGC label. Jimmy Olsen 134 says "1st Darkseid Cameo". Jimmy Olsen 135 says "Darkseid Cameo" but that came before Forever People 1 which says "2nd Darkseid Cameo"?

In Jimmy Olsen 134 he's only in one panel and he's colored wrong so what's the first full Darkseid?

What is Darkseids 1st cover, New Gods 2, no?

Second cover is Supervillains 3?

Early classic covers seem to be Mister Miracle 22

Return of the New Gods 17

Hard to believe he wasn't a major cover figure in the first New Gods and Forever People runs.

Then JLA 183-185 seem to be the first modern view of Darkseid, classic covers and storyline.

That's a really interesting point. How infrequently Kirby used his signature creation in his Fourth World covers. Does Mr Miracle 18 count?

New Gods #1 appeared well after Forever People #1. I believe Kirby had a cadence of every 3 weeks a new issue of Forever People / New Gods / Mr. Miracle came out. Jimmy Olsen was scattered in between. The order was always FP, then NG, then Mr. M.

I found an old post here that touched on this:

I figure this is about as good a place as any: Where's Darkseid's first "full" appearance? He makes a few cameo appearances (first in Jimmy Olsen #134, then Forever People #1.)

Darkseid's only appearance in JO 134:

Darkseid's only appearance in JO 135:

His first "full" appearance is in FP #1: 7 panels over 4 pages. The first few are like these: a face on a picture phone. But the latter few panels have him live, in the flesh, speaking with Superman and the Infinity Man.

I know Overstreet has FP #1 and New Gods #1 "tied," but FP #1 came out a couple of weeks earlier than New Gods, and Darkseid only appears in the final (but memorable) page of New Gods #1.

Sorry but JO 134 is the first appearance. I hate the Cameo argument. It's not like he's in the shadows, we actually see his face.

...on a TV with a wrong shade of color.....In hulk 180 you see wolvies full body, yet that's universally accepted as a cameo.

It's Forever People #1...JO 134 is a cameo

By reading the titles in appropriate order you see Darkseid has always been behind the scenes, in some ways. That’s the way Jack wished him to "appear", so – yes – I had quite a laugh when I went to check if I had a Jimmy Olsen #134 (luckily, I have :D ) since I did not recall Darkseid being in it, and saw his face (miscolored pink) in just a single panel, in a monitor.

Mr. Miracle #18 is interesting, I did not recall Darkseid’s shadow on it. :)

I cannot see the problem.

The first time Darkseid appeared in a comic anywhere was Jimmy Olsen #134.

I don't care if his face was yellow splotched.

They call him Darkseid and there is a spiel "Darkseid, and with the mention of that name etc etc"

You see him

He is referred to by name

He speaks

He is given a background

CGC duly note JO as 1st appearance.(Cameo or not for the above reasons)

Pretty sure that's a slam dunk - imho of course.
