What do you think this would get with and without the writing?

Tiny edge tear on the front right and back top.

5.0/5.5 I'd leave the writing, it's not that bad. Love this book.

Edit: the more I look the better it looks, I'd wager it could hit 6.0

I agree with 5.0/5.5 and writing wouldn't matter in this grade I don't think.

Is the writing a date stamp or marking? Looks like grease pencil date mark to me.

 

If so, that shouldn't be a .5 deduction, right?

 

As is, I will say about a 6.0 based on what I've seen other books at.

You are correct. Grease pencil. I've VERY easily and successfully removed grease pencil before that looked just like this.

 

Problem is I know this guy named Murphy. You see, he has this law...

Grease pencil does not annoy me, tanning and dust shadows annoy me more, but maybe it’s just the photo which makes it looks worse than it is. I’d say a F- 5.5.
