What's the deal with changing avitars?

An avatar is for life, not just for Xmas.

I've used the same one for over ten years. Maybe in another five years I'll consider a change

 

I've changed mine a few times until I met Lou but I've had mine now for at least 5 years - maybe longer.

It looks the same to me as it did yesterday evening.

Huh, Last night I was on the iPad and it was changed. Today I'm on the PC and it isn't.

I recall someone else having a similar issue a while back. Don't know how they fixed it.
