This could explain how and why for a while he was known for showing up to cons with a big rig buying all the unwanted boxes of drek on Sunday. Haul it down to Colorado and those longboxes he got for $7 a pop are now filled with $8 comics

The Legendary Frank Miller Strikes Again!
dupont2005 replied to KingOfRulers's topic in Comics General
I’m not sure about covers but I was reading through Savage Dragon in black and white and it looked a LOT like Miller work for the first 50-75 issues or so. Never read more than the 3 issue miniseries before and never noticed the strong Miller influence until I saw it in black and white -

When Marvel hired Miller to draw a cover, they were looking for a single image in the instantly recognizable Miller style that Roy is referring to. -

The Legendary Frank Miller Strikes Again!

Not just with Frank Miller but with multiple variant cover artists it seems like these days they’re just using the $50 budget convention sketches for some covers. I think with the wrong colorist all of Miller’s work can look pretty bad. His work is better when there is heavy blacks and enough depth that color is optional to the image. I still like his work he posts on Instagram -
It is what it is. I’m not going to give someone a discount lower than what another person would offer just because they say it’s their grail. I’ll discount a book if it’s just not selling and I’m motivated to get rid of it, and if the next buyer turns a profit off it good for him. Sometimes when I’m listing bulk runs of dollar comics a $100 random issue of whatever might slip through the cracks. It’s been brought to my attention before the transaction was complete in the past, but whatever. My reputation is worth more to me than $100 and if someone says to my asking price they deserve the deal. That’s half the point of scrolling though listings of endless drek anyway right?

The WTB section of this forum. The boards have been my favorite place to buy comics since I discovered the place. The people here know how to grade and package a comic better than most eBay sellers ever would. And they’re super above board and detailed in their descriptions unlike a lot of online listings. Why is this 7.0 so cheap? They’ll tell you what the scanner doesn’t pick up

I don’t want to get banned for saying what meat balls and onion gravy is called over there

That’s my problem. At one time my collection swelled to about 10,000 floppies and maybe 150-200 squarebound books and at a certain point I didn’t have the space or time to keep it organized. My piles of unsorted comics became boxes of unsorted comics and then stacks of boxes. At one point I realized I had purchased nearly entire runs multiple times just because I would any time I saw cheap Conan or TMNT or whatever. I miss my stacks of Warren mags but it just didn’t make sense keeping them boxed up and locked away for fear of my kids getting into them, or spending so much on comics and then budgeting gifts for the family. Hard sell telling the wife we can’t afford a $1300 purse when I spend that much in a month on car parts, electronics, and comics

First Appearances that Aren't in Standard Comic Books
dupont2005 replied to BuraddoRun's topic in Comics General
I’ve never really gotten the appeal of collecting comics because an advert in the back had the first appearance of a character. I also don’t get Hulk 181 being considered Wolverine’s first appearance since he has an in-continuity cameo in Hulk 180. In instances like Gambits first appearance I can say I don’t really care enough. But TMNT’s first appearance is TMNT #1 for me, although Gobbledygook is still cool. For the most part I’d never bother buying a Marvel Age or fanzine that had an early preview or prototype of a character, but I have done it in the past out of curiosity (Savage Dragon, Ralph Snart) and would do it again for one of the very few series I’m still heavy into if there were such a fanzine out there. -
It comes and goes for me. I don’t think it will ever be like it was before but I still get excited for a few books a year. I’ve always been a reader first and now have replaced most of my reading with digital. The Hoopla app provides me with endless free reading. Anything that’s not on there that I REALLY want to read I’ll buy it, and that’s what makes up my collection that is periodically culled. I think I have about 4 longboxes of comics and 4 magazine boxes, and all of it is for sale. The “keeper” pile is down to about a single magazine box with room to spare

They’re both obscured in the Mary Jane couch sketch

I frequently mistake him for Liefeld

Cleaning out my nightstand, found some unread comics sitting in the pile. Three day weekend and all my chores and errands are done. Time to read some comics

Went to the Teen Angels art show on my lunch break specifically to get this book that I have been trying to find for several years now. Plus a few pics of the gallery

Read it last night. It’s not a mystery. The story isn’t what I would call “gripping” but it is some very dark Simpson’s stuff. Pretty cool

Noir style murder mystery Simpson’s bootleg comic. I think second print might be sold out already. The guys name is Harry Nordlinger, he’s on Instagram. Haven’t read it yet, just seen some pages on Instagram. I’m going to read it tonight
