MAGIC CARPET

Volume 4, Number 1 (Issue #5)

January, 1934

Cover by Margaret Brundage. Logo by J. Allen St. John.

Includes the story The Shadow of the Vulture by Robert E. Howard, notable for the only pulp appearance of Howard's character Red Sonya. However, this is not a sword and sworcery Conan-esque epic. It's actually set during the Siege of Vienna (1529) by the Ottoman Empire. It wasn't until Roy Thomas was writing the Conan comic books in the early 70s that he re-imagined the Red Sonya character and changed one letter in her name to create Red Sonja, the She-Devil With a Sword.

NEW ADDITION

ORIENTAL STORIES

Volume 2, Number 3 (#9)

Summer, 1932

Cover by Margaret Brundage.

This is the last issue of Oriental Stories. With the next issue it became Magic Carpet. The cover art is very early work by Margaret Brundage. I believe it's just the second cover she ever did (the previous issue of Oriental Stories being her first).

WEIRD TALES

Volume 12, Number 2

August, 1928

Cover by C.C. Senf.

This is one of my favorites! The cover story, Red Shadows by Robert E Howard, features the 1st appearance of Solomon Kane. Of Howard's four best known characters (Solomon Kane, Kull of Atlantis, Conan the Barbarian, and Bran Mak Morn), Solomon Kane was the earliest.

It also contains the first published work of Tennessee Williams, The Vengeance of Nitocris, who was written when he was 16 years old.

Got a few new additions and upgrades to share. :)

Congratulations on all the new upgrades. :applause:

Your collection looks beautiful.

Are you looking for anything now in particular in the way of pulps?

Thanks BZ!

Top of my wishlist for Weird Tales are the Jan and Mar 1933 issues which would complete my Conan set (I currently have 24 of the 26 issues). Those two along with the Jan 1932 issue would also complete my 1932-38 run of 83 issues.

Other pulps high on my wishlist are Oriental Stories from Sep 1932 and the first issue of Doc Savage.
