Dennis Hussey - Where has this artist been hiding himself ?

2 posts in this topic

Hello all,

I have had the utmost pleasure in recently meeting a rather eccentric and extremely reclusive artist. The artists name is Dennis Hussey and he has had a quite incredible career ranging from working as an illustrator/painter on the BBC's Wildlife on One for 5 years to painting sitting portraits of the Queen Mother, Michael Jackson, Charlton Heston, John Wayne (to quote Dennis " an incredibly polite man, always called me Sir") and numerous other individuals. In addition to this he worked for the Royal National Portrait Gallery in London and repaired/maintained paintings by many of the most famous names/masters you could imagine.

In the 80's Dennis exhibited his works in some of the top London portrait galleries including the Trion Gallery and the Natural History Museum alongside two of his contemporaries Robert Bateman and David Shepherd. However after this period Dennis became rather reclusive, and his works have gone unseen ever since.

This is a tiny overview of an incredible career (forgot to mention (amongst many other things) he was one of the leading set designers on Ben-Hur!) and I'm hoping to expand on some of Dennis' Native American works (they are all based on Howard Terpning and Frank McCarthy works, some of which you can see in my Caf gallery). I have managed to persuade Dennis (eventually) to display some of his works (the majority of his work is stored in bubble wrap in racks in his studio and have been hidden away from the world for many years) . I haven't even touched on his early years in the parachute regiment, then as a member of the SAS where he served for 2 years in Borneo Jungle ! And the years spent living with Native Americans in the 70's. Quite a life !

I have provided a few photos of his work and when I get time I shall post as many as I can of his other pieces.

Please leave some comments if you have the time as I'm trying to persuade Dennis to open up his vault of works but he's reluctant to (major understatement). Please help me in my efforts to persuade him !

Dennis would like $2000 for the Comic based images although he will also consider best offers. Both the Captain America piece and the Wolverine v Sabretooth piece are painted on museum quality stock and measure approximately 2ft x 1ft although the exact dimensions are yet to be confirmed.

The Black Queen artwork is approximately 3ft x 1.5ft and painted on board and Dennis would like $3500 for this piece, although he will consider best offers.

All of Dennis' works are a substantial size (especially his Native American pieces which are all around 5ft x 3ft) and are all painted on treated board (except for the two comic based pieces which are painted on museum quality stock)

Dennis has decided that he is now willing to part with some of his pieces so if you are interested in any of his art or would like further information please get in touch. If not, please enjoy the works of art as I am, they are truly outstanding and look absolutely breathtaking in the flesh.

Thanks for your time.
