Help grading Evil Ernie #1 and #2

9 posts in this topic

Hello,

I'm having some difficulty finding an accurate grade for these books.

A seller is offering these two copies. I asked about the condition, and he said that they are at least 9.4's and sent me some pictures.

On EE #1, I can see what looks to be two spine ticks that break color, a corner crease (front cover, upper left) which the seller says is hairline, and what could be pressure marks on the front and back covers.

EE #2 may have some NCB spine ticks; I can't see much else from the pics.

After mentioning the corner crease to him, he said that the books are an easy 9.2.

How would these books fare if CGC'd? Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you.

Thanks. I edited my post and added the original pic that he had for the sale. It's small so not much can be seen, but I'm not sure if that's a color break or what on the right edge of EE #1; it looks like two white dots.

He also mentioned that there was slight corner blunting.

After looking at the second picture of EE #1 again, I noticed what could be a production defect on the lower left corner area. Looks like a blue ink/water mark. Is that all it is?

#1 doesn't have any shot at a 9.4?

Those are horrible pictures to try and grade from, Sulphur is right on with thinking there's something fishy going on. I'd want to see large clear shots of the entire book.

Yeah, I decided to pass on the purchase. I was looking for a 9.4 minimum, and the lack of clear pics... too risky.

The seller has good feedback and was pretty cool about the whole situation, though, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Thanks for your input, everyone!

Good luck with the search. (Thumbs u

Thanks, I'll need it. :wishluck:

I waited four days for an ebay auction to end (Evil Ernie #1 9.4 blue label, signed), only to not make it back in time to enter a higher bid. :frustrated: It sold for $83... sigh.

I've sent messages to other sellers from around the web that have raw copies, but I'm not holding my breath.
