A quick question on Ultimate Team-Up

Are these books stand alone,or is there a carryover from issue to issue? I just picked up an almost complete run of 1 thru 14,missing only a few issues. Can I get by reading only the issues with heroes I like or do I need to plod tru them all to follow a story?

some times there are 2 issue arcs but I guess you can read with the approach you had in mind...don't forget USM special 1 is really more a part of UMTU instead of USM...
