I was checking my watch list on ebay, and noticed the nice 1949 Superman daily went for well over $1000. In light of the recent interest in comic strip art, I have posted for your viewing pleasure this 1949 Superman daily by Wayne Boring. No Supes, but a nice violent good girl action panel! Regards, David S. Albright

I was wrong. The checked suit is loud enough for Jimmy, but no freckles! The man's name is Eddie King, from the 1949 story line "Superman, Male Escort" which ran for forty-two strips.

Strip 3279-3320 (June 27, 1949 to August 13, 1949)

Eddie King, a male escort, gets a black eye while attempting to defend Clark Kent from a bully. As he will be unable to work, which he needs to raise money for his wedding, Eddie suggests Superman take his place. However, soon a mob of women appears, waiting for their chance to go out with Superman. When Eddie gets a second black eye, how will Superman ever get out of this obligation?

I also may have the artist wrong, since right around this time acclaimed DC cover artist Win Mortimer took over the pencils from Wayne Boring for a time. Haven't nailed that down, yet!

The writer is Alvin Schwartz.
