New Guide prices

Amen ditto, at least as far as the coin conspiracy. There is another factor,

though, that I think is more interesting. One of the reasons I've decided

to put some pocket cash into comic collecting is that I've seen virtually

everyone I know here in Silicon Valley lose fortunes on the stock market

over the last few years. I saw these people spend large amounts of

time checking their Priceline, WebWan, ePets, and Yahoo stocks (one

of my friends actually shared an office with the Yahoo founder at Stanford

but said no to joining them because he thought the idea was too dumb smile.gif,

but that's another story), and I saw them lose a large part of their savings

while they blamed each other, their companies, etc. etc. It was not a

pretty sight, and their hard earned money sure didn't buy them a very good

time. At least the way the economy is right now, I'd rather put some of

my spare cash into something that I truely enjoy. I suspect a lot of

people out there have come to a similiar conclusion, whether they collect

coins, comics, or whatever. Obviously, I would not invest my life's savings

in comics, but my own theory is that people in general will put a slightly

bigger fraction of their savings into things that they like after they have

been burned on the stock market. This, I suspect, has also played a role

in the rising prices (obviously fueled by CGC and eBay).

I agree 100% but its a waste of breath trying to argue the point. If a few pay 8 x guide than the book is worth 8 x guide so be it. Whatever there are other things in life to spend your money on than chasing comics. If the market continues to rise this fast then most books will be too rch for my blood and most collectors. and no this doesnt mean I am worried about Wolverine 1 being $1500 I wouldnt pay $15 for the over speculated . I'm buying more for the simple pleasure of reading . And if you are naive enough to believe the market isnt manipulated then so be it. NASDAQ couldnt be manipulated either could it?
