I read #1 and really liked it, Chaykin's artwork is fantastic and he's still a great storyteller... but for various reasons I've opted to "wait for the trade" so that I can read it all at one time.

I think it will work better that way. Because of the complexity of the stories that Chaykin tells and the amount of information he occasionally shoves onto a page, having all that went before fresh in one's mind usually heightens the experience. I liked American Flagg a lot when it was coming out, but my FULL appreciation for the title came once I sat down and read the whole damned thing in one go.

With this book I just think it will be more effective stylistically as well. Going from the crescendo of that first issue into the rest of the story will really give some momentum and oomph to the story, I think.

I'll keep gathering the monthlies then and read them all at once! thumbsup2.gif I've been doing this for about two years now and I like the 'buy them, save and read all at once' technique, but usually I'll read the first one to make sure I want the rest of the series!

What's the deal with these Director's Cuts?

I've seen them, but I don't see what the big deal is.

Maybe if they arrived day and date with the regular editions I might make the choice to pick up one or the other, but to deliberately delay the DC (no pun intended) by one to two weeks eliminates the need for the regular reader to have any interest - leaving these books to the speculators and completists and in some cases (if the regular sells out) the people that arrived late.

Are you guys picking them up? Do you find any thing truly "extra" in these director's cuts?

Completist here thumbsup2.gif

Althought the uncut versions do usually have some interesting tidbits thrown in by the writer or new artwork.
