accessndx Posted October 11, 2013 Share Posted October 11, 2013 So I learned something interesting today: upon calling the CGC about slabbing the five ghosts ashcans I was told that the CGC is reluctant to use the 'ashcan' nomenclature on a label because 'they're so easy to reproduce'. They asked me a plethora of questions about if the issue was in color, b&w, etc. They asked where I obtained it and a variety of other questions. Regardless, they did say when provenance can be proven from the publisher or artist that they would be willing to list 'ashcan' on the corresponding CGC label obtained. Their head grader "Shawn Caffrey" apparently makes these sort of decisions upon speaking with the artists or publisher. I thought that may be helpful for any of you closet ashcan folks out there. I know Machiavelli submitted one previously and the designation was something like "published before Image" or something of that nature. I know he and I discussed this briefly and I'm not sure if he went back to the CGC to see if the label could be updated to reflect more properly what the printed item was. It's clear that the comic was in fact the ashcan, but I can now understand why the CGC didn't label it as such. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I would be very concerned. I believe this same seller had them listed at $1999 BIN so I am sure he was not pleased with the final price. If i had thought they would only go for that I would have bid. But as far as getting the 9.9s for that heckuva good price, he may be S.O.L. That said, the seller appears to be in good standing on Ebay from 2009. What's the likelihood he's going to want to tank his good rep. for some shoddy reason? Sellers also have an obligation via the new Ebay regs to put in some tracking info. within a timely period. Not saying there's not a first time for everything. Even at that price, that seller made a tidy profit...but if he was expecting to retire early off of those 9.9s he's probably a bit miffed. There'd be bad rep. flying and eventually Ebay or Paypal would just return the revenue. I think it'd be a thing to do if the seller just refunded the money and told the buyer to go scratch because his auction didn't end at the $ amt. he wanted.
