That sucks that the winner might not get those slabs. If the seller wants to void the transaction because the winning bid was "low," at least they should man up and say so, not go awol.

Make up a lie or something! Say the slabs were damaged! lol

lol! Hey hey....that's not always a lie!!! I had a BIN for an X-men that got dropped shortly after a best offer was made. I told the buyer that I'd reslab and offer it again to him once it was returned at the same price. I couldn't in good faith sell some cracked slab!

(thumbs u Yeah, I'm sure it may be true in some cases, which is why it would be a good excuse!!

To get an SDCC Five Ghosts set in 9.9 for $550 i would let Roseanne Barr use it for a bed during Lovemaking with Tom Arnold. Then get it reslabbed since it would have already been "pressed"!

you shouldn't have too big of a problem, buyer is KING at ebay.

He certainly won't have any trouble getting his $ back. But as far as getting the 9.9s for that heckuva good price, he may be S.O.L.

That said, the seller appears to be in good standing on Ebay from 2009. What's the likelihood he's going to want to tank his good rep. for some shoddy reason? Sellers also have an obligation via the new Ebay regs to put in some tracking info. within a timely period. Not saying there's not a first time for everything. Even at that price, that seller made a tidy profit...but if he was expecting to retire early off of those 9.9s he's probably a bit miffed.

Here's to hoping he/she/it comes through on their end of the transaction.

Hi everyone,

I am that seller, and I wanted to clearify something....

The buyer took his sweet time in paying... 4 days after the auction and I was traveling at the time to the NYC Convention... I did contact the buyer while at the show, when I noticed a message from him asking why I did not ship one day after he paid....

I Politely informed him that because of his delay I would not be able to ship his books until I returned home...

I believe that this is a over reaction on his part, had he paid quickly I would have shipped prior to leaving for the con.

I have NEVER backed out of an auction and I doubt I ever will

I honestly would have shipped today but life got in the way... so to be fair... I'm a day later then I should have been...

Good deal. Although there is a part of me that is sick to my stomach for you. That was an awesome set that went way too low. I really would have bid had i thought there was any chance i could get it under $600. I thought it would possibly hit $1000

Based on how this buyer behaved I would have rather sold it to you for less!

doh!

Sounds like you communicated just fine.

Sorry it had to come here. But looks like everything will work out. (thumbs u

I did like how the buyer failed to mention that he was late paying....

No, something like could never impact a ship date.... RIGHT?

doh!

I can't speak of the buyer's intentions but it does appear there was at least some confusion.

Nonetheless, kudos to you for clearing the air and handling this issue for him.

It speaks volumes about you and it's also good to know you're a boardie.

All that said, I still think you'd have done a bit better here on the boards with those 9.9s. Ebay can be a timing crapshoot sometimes...especially 'round con season.

Plus you would have saved the redunkulous Ebay vig....and have guaranteed that the slabs would have gone to a fellow boardie.

Anyway, good to see that it's all good.

So I learned something interesting today: upon calling the CGC about slabbing the five ghosts ashcans I was told that the CGC is reluctant to use the 'ashcan' nomenclature on a label because 'they're so easy to reproduce'. They asked me a plethora of questions about if the issue was in color, b&w, etc. They asked where I obtained it and a variety of other questions.

Regardless, they did say when provenance can be proven from the publisher or artist that they would be willing to list 'ashcan' on the corresponding CGC label obtained.

Their head grader "Shawn Caffrey" apparently makes these sort of decisions upon speaking with the artists or publisher.

I thought that may be helpful for any of you closet ashcan folks out there. I know Machiavelli submitted one previously and the designation was something like "published before Image" or something of that nature. I know he and I discussed this briefly and I'm not sure if he went back to the CGC to see if the label could be updated to reflect more properly what the printed item was.

It's clear that the comic was in fact the ashcan, but I can now understand why the CGC didn't label it as such.

Yo access! Just got around to catching up on the Five Ghost chatter in here. Great info! I never sent my ashcan back and probably will just leave it as is. The first time I had the label changed they regraded it from a 9.4 to a 9.2 so I'm a bit hesitant to send things back now.

I just got back my SDCC set which were all 9.8's :headbang: but somehow they marked issues 4 as being issue 3. So now I have 2 copies that are labeled #3. Looks like I have no choice but to send these back. If you are planning to send your ashcans in let me know via pm.

I'm a novice (not expert) but I prefer CGC misprints.

Today I learned what an ashtray is. What other moderns have ashtrays in the hands of the public?

How much more popular or common is an issue #1's OA than an ashtray?

Thanks you for the kind words,

I did actually try to sell these on the boards, with no luck...

and yeah the Ebay vig is bad and getting worse...

I try to be pragmatic when it comes to ebay auctions, some end low and others (that have no reason to) end at twice what I think they should... it all comes clean in the wash

Previous to today, I felt the need to accompany some of my posts with an 'I am not a smart man' meme because stating I'm no expert does not suffice.

I atleast wiki'ed what an ASHCAN is.

W00t! No typo that time. :applause:

I guess I should have learned my lesson last time.

Don't try to broaden your uderstanding of modern comics on these forums. Turn to else where (yahoo answers, etc).

Go ahead, call me sensitive.

It's not sensitivity on my part, no. It's stupidity or arrogance thinking this reply will minimize how often I see people get mini flamed for typos, using the wrong nomenclature or asking a stupid question.
