Guardians Of The Galaxy Will Take Over Jimmy Kimmel Live On Monday

After storming into The View and The Colbert Report, Marvel has announced plans for the Guardians of the Galaxy to take over ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday July 21st.

In a press release, Marvel promised Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper will appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live on the same night as the superhero adventure's worldwide premiere. Along with this enticing ensemble, the Monday episode will also boast exclusive bonus content.

Honestly, with as many commercials, clips, etc. I've seen of this movie, I think I can piece it together myself and save myself money going to the theater. Disney is spending BIG money promoting this movie, more so than any movie I've seen in quite a while. The advertising budget must be one of the largest for a movie. I'm guessing they want to avoid John Carter and Lone Ranger type failures.

I haven't been this excited to see a comic book movie since the first X-Men. I think this may finally be something new from the genre.

+1,000,000

Man, wasn't the first X-Men hype awesome? The way GotG rolled out reminds me of that. It's very cool. In terms of anticipation of GotG I rank it on a short list of movies I was anxiously waiting for when I was younger:

Empire Strikes Back

Ghostbusters

Return of the Jedi

Star Trek: First Contact

X-Men

Back in those days I lived on aintitcool, dark horizons, & SuperheroHype (Spider-ManHype).

Pffft I'm buying. This movie is going to put Guardians up there with Avengers

A wise-cracking raccoon didnt shoot off warning bells? Its gonna be epically bad. Trust old Kav.

Have you been smoking the Jimmy L. plants??

This movie is a Kids dream. The Raccoon is the icing.

It will be big (thumbs u

Like ODB said ..." Wu-Tang Guardians of the Galaxy is for the kids "

That clip never gets old. I remember when that happened and smiled then and smile now.

Probably the thing that has me most concerned is the amount of hype PR and advertising-it seems the more a movie is hyped the suckier it is.

Does anyone remember how ubiquitous green lantern ads, stories and promos there were?

Pretty sure I'm gonna say told ya so on this one.

Not that some wont like it. Some liked Daredevil.

The funny thing is that I not sure a $446 million take will make the movie profitable. Say that Disney gets half the take-- they pull in $225 million from a $450 million box office. They've reportedly spent $170 million on the production budget. How much has the marketing of this film cost? Is it less than $55 million? I haven't seen any actual numbers, but the guesses that I've seen have been big.

I'm guessing that a $450 world-wide million box office is pretty close to break even on this movie.

The early tracking numbers for the film are putting it opening somewhere around the $60 million mark, with some tracking sites as high as the $70 million mark. For reference, the 1st Thor movie opened at $65 million on the way to a $446 million worldwide take -- if Guardians can pull in similar numbers, with a relatively similar budget ($170 million vs. Thor's $150 million), then I would guess that Disney/Marvel will be thrilled.

Some people seem desperate for this movie to 'fail'

And some people are just lemmings. "Marvel says this lame character is so cool, so he must be cool!"

I'll judge the movie when it comes out. And I'll see it despite it having one of the worst comic characters ever starring, Rocket Raccoon. I suspect it will be as good as the rest of the Marvel movies, which have all been entertaining.

When Marvel makes an equivalent of the Dark Knight trilogy, I'll agree with you.

Marvel makes popular movies. They also make popular comics. They don't make great movies or comics however. (shrug)

Well, can't say your story isn't consistent. Wrong? yes. Consistent? Always.

:golfclap:

the prosecution rests your honor

Mind if we focus on Guardians of the Galaxy? Is that okay? I'd hate to disrupt your DC hatefest. There's a dedicated thread for that.
