Anyone recognize this Archie cover??

Maybe an unused Betty & Me cover?
There are a couple of series it could have been intended for, but it definitely looks unused, as there are no pencil notations telling which series and issue number it was for. It also has no sign of old pasteup where the trade dress would have been added. It was pencilled by Dan DeCarlo, probably mid-1970s.

 

I'm trying to imagine the UPC box in the lower left, which would have covered the words "ice cream" and weakened the gag. If it were pre-UPC, that would make it before the August, 1976 cover date. Total wild speculation: if it were drawn just as UPC became standard in the Archie line, this cover may have been tossed for that reason, since the placement of the box would have interfered with the art.

Good work. I was completely wrong about the lack of markup. :D Maybe it was erased?
