40 cent Sect. Spidey variant.

2 posts in this topic

Anyone know the reason why the Canadian version has a 40 cent price. In 1968 the Canadian dollar was stronger than the US Dollar. I remember visiting Expo67 and a US dollar was only worth something like 95 cents, and one Canadian dollar was worth $1.05 American.

The later Canadian variants reflected the real exchange rate, more or less,so there must be a a different reason?

Any thoughts?

My theory is USA publishers (Marvel or Harvey) were test marketing the higher retail cover price in the smaller Canadian market even though the Cdn $ may have been worth more or on par with the US greenback from around 1962 to early 1970s.

Harvey squarebound giants hi.gif were 25c in USA but 35c in Canada in the early 60s. This have been verified by other hardcore Harvey collectors.
