BB-Gun
Those Gaines copies are amazing. What kind of paper did he use to separate the comics? How much did he get from selling the collection?
Wrightson fan
Those Gaines copies are amazing. What kind of paper did he use to separate the comics? How much did he get from selling the collection? I know Bill's widow Annie. Conversed with her about the election last night. I will ask her for some background on the books the next chance I get. originalisbest
Amazing copy of SHOCK #6. Though I don't know Bill's widow, what I know of the collection of file copies is that they were stacked, wrapped carefully in brown paper and left undisturbed on the top shelf of Gaines' closet in NY from roughly - 1960(?) until they were unwrapped, assessed and numbered certs given in order of "worst" to nicest. Not sure how they were first sold/distributed, through Russ Cochran I presume -- and Gaines at the time retained a few sets at least.
Twistty1
They were moved to his closet in 1960 and stayed there until 1989. At that time they were opened by Russ, Bob Overstreet and Bill, I'm assuming, to be sold.
Mr.Illmannered
It looks like a reprint it's so fresh. Now that's a nice funnybook. When I saw it in another thread I thought 'look at that awesome reprint'. Then I thought 'I now hate the owner'.
BB-Gun
A few more to add to the SciFi box... They are not in great condition but the covers look pretty nifty together.
originalisbest
Yep, the plan was always to evaluate and put them up for sale, but gaines did retain a few sets -- not sure if he retained the "best" of the best ones. And for whatever reason, there was only the one copy of Vault #12(1)...
