I think the Stevens Alien Worlds #2 cover is a great example of his work, though, obviously, it's not iconic like, say, Airboy #5 or Sheena...between that and the more limited market for Stevens vs. mainstream Marvel art, $80K seemed high to everyone I spoke to about it.

 

I agree. $80K for that Alien Worlds #2 cover seems off by quite a way. But $80K for say something like Albert's Alien Worlds #4 cover? If I heard that number I don't think I'd feel too surprised.

Interesting point about no man's land. I get what you mean.

 

As for Stevens, AW2 is nice and one of the first stevens covers most of us saw, but it doesn't have enough oomph. I'd take Chris' splash over that cover all day long. In the 100k neighborhood to me there's one stevens cover that would deserve that price tag, although I'm not sure if it would look as good in B&W:
