PGM Captain Britain v2 #14 (Psylocke!)

11 posts in this topic

Final issue of the series, final chapter of the Alan Davis classic storyline which would have eventually led to New Mutants Annual #2 the following year, and to Betsy Braddock joining the X-Men as Psylocke. Here Betsy has already lost her sight (previous issue) and the Captain and Meggan are busy to fix the last remaining problems from the Cherub Whirlwind, the Cherubim and warpies in general… :D

I have two copies, in similar condition. Copy A would seem better, as Copy B has some cover corner creasing (both front and back), but Copy A has some tanning around the edges, so I am undecided on which I should keep.

Thanks in advance, and any comment and opinion is much appreciated! (thumbs u

The cover paper of these magazines is really delicate – a lot more than those of regular US comics. So, I think both copies are in the FVF to VF- range, the second one has a lot of creasing on the back cover bottom corner. Soft, but it’s there.

I would pick the first copy because the cover is nicer, but the second has better interiors (no tanning), although PQ is a bit darker. I am really undecided. :(

Thanks! :foryou:

They are really tough to be found in higher grade. Maybe if one is in the UK and knows where to look for, they can be found, but so far – especially those last issues – I haven’t found nicer copies.

And whiteness of paper is very important, as in some issues Alan Davis' inking is very delicate, and they really offer a better reading experience when the paper is whiter. (thumbs u

I consider myself lucky enough to have found a full run in awesome condition (VFNM and better, and white paper) of the previous magazine where the new Captain Britain stories (by Alan Moore and Alan Davis) started: The Daredevils. :)

Ah, jsilverjanet: how would you grade these?

I'm having trouble with the scans, the black paper/black cover plus the tight cropping.

Copy A: 8.5 maybe 9.0 but the top left BC makes me think not.

Copy B: 7.5/8.0 leaning higher.

Thanks much, guys, I was starting to think no one loved Captain Britain… :D

@Hado: Aren’t the high res versions enough for judge them properly? I thought there was enough contrast between the black cardboard and the magazine paper.

Your grades are generous, I think they are more in the VF- range, but maybe the first one could be a VF. The bad paper quality makes difficult to grade these mags… very delicate. :(
