How come those 10's on the label seem faded?

poking fun at me?

Who, me? :shy:

I didn't realize that was your thread. I guess I proved the theory that there's a fine line between being clever and stupid.

Serious answer: Because 10s are not printed in black, they are gold.

Steve Borock clarified a long time back the CGC standard for a 10.0 is not the best printed book ever created. It is the best example they have graded, which can have less than White Pages as well. Hence, the Wolverine 1 Limited Series CGC 10.0 with Off-White to White Pages.

So wouldn't the first time they grade a particular book merit a 10 :baiting:

I'm thinking that maybe they mean the highest grade possible for any particular book. A brand new Revival 1 9.8 is going to look better than most 9.9's or even 10's of older books. Same down the line. A lot of gold and silver age 9.8's would barely cut a 9.4 by modern standards. I suppose it's based on individual books, and how a 9.8 or above is the best it can possibly be. Like a wolverine 35. By most standards, it should never have a 9.8 because of the way it was cut. But a 9.8 would be the best it could get because that's pretty much the way they were all printed. The way they all left the printer. Detective 481 is another example. A TRUE 9.8 (typical standards by which most books are judged) will never happen, but because that's the way it was made. A sharp cornered, centered, spine stress free example of how it left the press, should receive a 9.8. Just my opinion.

I'm willing to bet my signature for 50 posts that it won't go for higher than the first 9.9

Done. First 9.9 was $12,500. Happily to take this bet. Free advertising for me.

You're on.

Care for a side bet? Winner picks the other guy's avatar for a week. Only one rule, the avatar must not violate the rules of the board.

You got it (thumbs u
