Avengers #57: Vision (Timely) Vs. Vision (Marvel)

3 posts in this topic

Avengers #57 is generally referred to as featuring the first appearance of the Silver Age Vision. Is this strictly speaking correct?

My interpretation of first Silver Age appearances is that the characters are more or less the same as the characters that appeared in the Golden Age ie. Captain America (Steve Rogers) and the Scarecrow (Jonathon Crane).

As far as I can tell, the Timely Vision and the Marvel Vision aren't the same character in any way. Timely Vision is an alien from another dimension whereas the Marvel Vision is an android (a robot with a human appearance).

Now clearly the Timely vision was being referenced and drawn upon as inspiration (the cover to Av #57 is a clear homage) but the two are, AFAIK, unrelated. Should Avengers #57 possibly be referred to as the first appearance of the new Vision, a bit like Daredevil #131, or even just 'first appearance of the Vison'?
