Al Plastino has just been added to the guest list for Florida Supercon 2014 at our "NEW LOCATION" The Miami Beach Convention Center July 3-6, 2014! http://www.floridasupercon.com/

Al Plastino is a living legend in the comic book industry and will be making an extremely rare public appearance at Florida Supercon! Al is well known as the co-creator of Supergirl, The Legion of Superheroes, Braniac, The Parasite and more during his run as one of the main artists of Superman in the 1950's-1960's on titles such as Superman, Action Comics, Adventure Comics, Superboy, Superman's Girlfriend Lois Lane, Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen and World's Finest Comics.

Al’s earliest work was for Dynamic Publications' Dynamic Comics #2 (1941) followed by work for Timely / Marvel on Captain America, The Patriot, Sub-Mariner and The Vision. With the outbreak of World War II, Plastino and his brothers were drafted, and he served in the U.S. Army where he was assigned to the Grumman Aerospace Corporation, the National Inventors Council and then the Pentagon. In 1948 he was brought into DC Comics by Superman editor Mort Weisenger, where he became one of the core artists for the Superman family of comics. He was the co-creator on characters such as Supergirl, The Legion of Superheroes (Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl), Bizarro Superman, Braniac, The Parasite, Krypto The Super Dog and Mr. Mxyzptlk.

Plastino drew the syndicated Batman comic strip from 1966–72, and the Superman strip in the late 1960s. In 1970, he took over the syndicated strip Ferd'nand, which he drew until his retirement in 1989. In the early 1970s, DC assigned Plastino to retouch Jack Kirby's renditions of Superman and Jimmy Olsen, fearing that Kirby's versions were too different from the established images of the characters. Plastino also worked on Sunday episodes of Nancy from 1982 to 1983 after Ernie Bushmiller died. He was also commissioned by the United Media newspaper syndicate to ghost Peanuts when Charles Schulz underwent heart surgery in 1983. Al retired from the comics in 1990 and pursued his love for painting. His work has and continues to be displayed at Galleries all over New York.

I looked at the Crest Hotel Suites, very close to show, looks like its a short walk. My concern was that there is no, none, zero parking at the hotel. You need to park at the parking across the street from the hotel that STARTS at $40 per night.

Not sure there are any free parking hotels within walking distance of the convention. Most have Valet services only and are priced through the roof.

Best case scenario is, unload at hotel, drive to the 17th Street Garage (0.4 miles away) and walk back. Leave the car there the entire time since walking to and from the convention will be very easy. $20 per day for this lot (24 hour access in the event you do need to leave for any reason.)

I'm going to announce about 10 more "offical" hotels in the next 2 weeks, with preferred rates. All these hotels will be on the Beach (North Beach and South Beach) and will between $99 and $189 a night. All of our official hotels will have a free shuttle service to the convention center.

I will say that there is no free parking at any of the beach hotels... just the reality of being on the beach. We'll have a list of all the parking in the area. Parking options at the lots range from $15-$25 for overnight all day / all night parking.
