IDW's Rocketeer

Was going to just ask this question in the Dave Stevens thread in Copper, but I thought more opinions could be had here. What are your thoughts on IDW's handling of the Rocketeer legacy?

Yeah, aside from the great Stevens cover redux's, the stories and art themselves are a little lackluster. Yes, I have all of them..

 

Of course, my expectations were probably unreasonable.

Just like if it's not Will Eisner, it's not The Spirit. And if it's not Charles Schulz, it's not Peanuts.

Now those Bettie variant covers - I'd like to own all of those.

I bought the first two, but despite above average art, they felt weak story-wise, and haven't given them another chance. If they could get Mark Schultz to write and draw an issue or two, I'd buy it.

The only reason I liked Rocketeer was Dave Stevens' artwork. I don't think I've ever watched the movie completely and I'm definitely not interested in any other creator's interpretation of the character.

 

I do own a signed print by Dave Stevens.
