I'm with you, Harry. My first comic was probably either a Disney or Archie around '62, and I'd guess my first Superhero mag was a Supes, Action, Adventure, Bats, or Detective, but I can't for the life of me remember. On the other hand, I remember going to Korvettes to buy the Meet the Beatles LP, which I think cost 99 cents, and the She Loves You/I'll Get You single on the Swan label for 49 or 59 cents. Still got the beaters, too!

My first Silver Age book that I remember purchasing was Avengers #4 at a little grocery store. My brother and I must have read that book 1,000 times! I still have it today, no cover, totally trashed, but totally loved! (I'm getting misty about it right now) It was one of the few books that survived the great purge by my mother and grandmother, wiped out nearly all my books from 64 to 67. AUUUGHHH!!!

I remember buying certain books at certain places, I bought both JIM Annual #1 and Avengers Annual #1 on trips on the Steamship to Nantucket. The stores around me never seemed to carry the Annuals!

I think I was about 10 years old when I bought my first Silver Age comic. I bought it off the comic rack at a drug store (in 1966?). It was an issue of Superman, don't remember the number, but it came out at the same time I bought an Amazing Spider-Man #42. I was a "Make Mine Marvel" guy after that. I sold those, along with the rest of my Silver Age collection back in 1994. I knew I would regret it, and I do. But I have replaced many of my favorites and have a small Silver Age collection that I'm very pleased with.

Avengers #4, which my aunt gave me when I was sick in as a child. The comic affected me more than "Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan, more than "Goldfinger" and even more than "I, Robot" by Isaac Asimov. I own a copy of the comic today which cost me $42.00. I purchased it about four years ago.
