Wow! What a task!! Voting off so many beautiful covers by the master, Russ Heath. Tough work, I know, so big props to all of you who have been voting. (worship)

Welcome to Round 3! :whee:

If you thought the first two rounds were difficult, we now have 50 books here and we're going to slash half of them away.

In the nomination thread, I had asked people to nominate their favorite Russ Heath comic covers. I've taken every one of those covers and included them here in this post. The poll is at the bottom of this post. The goal is to determine the greatest Heath cover of all time. You decide what makes a cover "great". To quickly reduce this to the best of the best covers, we will be voting off our 25 least favorite covers from the list provided. There were a total of 116 covers to start from.

Remember, we are voting for the ones that we do not like. That is, our "least favorite", as I mentioned before.

These rounds will last 48 hours each. We'll vote off 36 in round 1, 30 in round 2, 25 in round 3, 10 in round 4, 5 in round 5, 5 in round 6, and then pluck off one per round until we have our champion.

Even if you're not a Russ Heath fan (yeah right), you can still vote away some covers that you're less keen of. (thumbs u I really hope everyone can participate. :wishluck:

Chit chat is welcomed and encouraged, so please express your thoughts as the rounds progress.

I know this is a lot of books to look at and vote off, so I thank you in advance for your participation.

Tip: Some folks have two windows open when voting, one to look at the pretty pictures and one to click the checkboxes on the poll. If you hover your mouse over the pictures, you'll be able to see the name of the book.

Thanks everyone, now to the books.....

I found those Marvel Tales books really striking and wondered if they were copying EC's style with three boxes or circles on the left side of the cover. I looked into it and it looks like Marvel Tales did it first and Tales From The Crypt copied them. Don't know if there was another EC title that did the same sort of thing, and perhaps even earlier...

Anyway, never paid much attention to them but they are really cool! (thumbs u

I doubt Russ had much to do with the color choices on the covers, but the colors really make some of these stand out and others too subdued. No doubt the illustrations are all excellent, but some of them show that excellence better because of color schemes that complement them.

Very good point. I did not think to mentally disassociate the colorist's work when voting. Also, it seems that color preferences vary by individual, just as much as "art" preferences, some will like the monotone covers more, others the vibrant.

Y'all know that Russ is 87 years old now :o:o

87 !!!

(worship)

Maybe thats why G.I. Combat 87 got the boot :baiting:

GIC 87 is a great book. A must have for any SA war collector, but it's hardly the best cover. Buh-bye
