Here we are folks, Round 4. We have voted off 91 covers and are now at our top 25! I've included full-sized scans for your full-sized pleasure. (thumbs u

In the nomination thread, I had asked people to nominate their favorite Russ Heath comic covers. I've taken every one of those covers and included them here in this post. The poll is at the bottom of this post. The goal is to determine the greatest Heath cover of all time. You decide what makes a cover "great". To quickly reduce this to the best of the best covers, we will be voting off our 10 least favorite covers from the list provided. Least favorite. LEAST FAVORITE! I'm not sure if I mentioned, but we are voting for our "least favorite" covers here. There were a total of 116 covers to start from.

 

Remember, we are voting for the ones that we do not like. That is, our "least favorite", as I mentioned before.

 

These rounds will last 48 hours each. We'll vote off 36 in round 1, 30 in round 2, 25 in round 3, 10 in round 4, 5 in round 5, 5 in round 6, and then pluck off one per round until we have our champion.

 

Even if you're not a Russ Heath fan (yeah right), you can still vote away some covers that you're less keen of. (thumbs u I really hope everyone can participate.

 

Chit chat is welcomed and encouraged, so please express your thoughts as the rounds progress.

 

I know this is a lot of books to look at and vote off, so I thank you in advance for your participation.

I pretty much selected all the non-war comics I could. (Except for Journey Into Unknown Worlds which I love). I feel that, it being Russ Heath, a war comic should win. There. I just jinxed it.

There's a bunch in there that I wasn't crazy about. I didn't find it hard to say "Bye bye!" to ten of them. :shrug:

 

Anyways, it's obvious War Comics 11's gonna win!

As much as I love the Atlas stuff, I cant see past Showcase #45 of whats left, the detail and composition of this book is great and a winner all day for me.

I love all the rest also

A few books I am surprised to see here in the top 25, TBH.

 

Suspense 24 and the two Uncanny Tales.

 

War Comics 11 is classic, but I prefer the other 15 that I didn't vote against.

 

Strategically, I should probably vote for Marvel Tales 130, but I have an internal struggle to click that book's check box.

I am at the point where I am looking at which ones I think are the best, and think that any of these 6 could be potential winners.

 

All Amercian Men of War #94 ---- just awesome

GI Combat #80 ----------------------- night time dogfight. So cool !!

GI Combat # 91 ----------------------this cover is incredibly tense !!

Showcase #45 -----------------------the idea alone is sheer genius !!

Star Spangled War Stories #81 --- outstanding concept !!

Uncanny Tales #23 ------------------ this one captures a mood and atmosphere that is almost disturbing. Fantastic cover !!

I love both GI Combats, Journey into Unknown Worlds looks great in high grade (wish the scan was better), like the Marvel Tales, the Showcase #29, Spellbound #3 is a classic (just sold a super pretty copy), like the SSWS, both Uncanny Tales and both Wars. Voted off everything else.
