Strictly speaking, #142 is the first apperance of the Valkyrie (as Brunhilde, in the body of Samantha Parrington) – if we talk of the Valkyrie we love and are accustomed to, then it’s Hulk #126 (Barbara)/Defenders #4 (Valkyrie in the body of Barbara), but since basically Val is Brunhilde, we should consider #142 the real deal (Avengers #83 is earlier but it’s just the Enchantress disguised as Brunhilde).
