I just re-read the 87 (it's a half book story) and you are right.

It's just called a humaniod but appears to be the bigest and strongest of the Leaders minons.

 

And the Guide says Hulk 105, 106 is the first Missing Link story.

 

You have to admit they made the missing link look like him though:

Other than the color its pretty darn similar.

The inside story in both 105 and 106 has the Link a lot pinker than the cover.
