GPA Frustrations

92 posts in this topic

I don't care who you are, your personal records are not reliable and are definitely subject to scrutiny.
Just like GPA :acclaim:

This is patently false.

GPA is not personal records.

Aren't they George's records?

There is a difference between a service people pay for that are subject to a different level of scrutiny that a single person's personal records.

I get it you are making a point, but saying they are the same thing is also incorrect. Its like stating that the score you kept of a boxing match is the correct one, not the Official count and the Vegas Sports Book owes you money.

You're kinda all over the place m'man. Now you're talking about "official" ... is GPA the "official" score in your analogy? :foryou:

:baiting::frustrated::pullhair::tonofbricks:

loads of help, thanks

I try.

And I'm not baiting you...

One is people's opinions (OSPG).

The other is actual sales records (GPA).

You are combining definition and intention. You may use them for similar purposes, but they are not the same thing.

A BIN sales record is an opinion of value that is shared by buyer & seller. An auction sales record is a difference of opinion of value by two buyers.

In my opinion.

Sure, but both represent actual market sales…

OSPG is a group of people "agreeing" on the value of a comic. Whatever data they include, because it eventually incorporates opinion and perspective, means is not objective.

Not sure what your point is. A guide is something you use to get somewhere or achieve something. It's not about what it's made of, it's about what it's used for.

Come on, now you are just posting for the sake of it.

Arbitrarily adjusting the definition to prove your point isn't a valid argument.

You are just shifting the discussion away from the original point: OSPG is a guide (i.e. a group of people make up numbers) and GPA is a record of sales (i.e. a cross-section of actual market sales).

^^

lol I'm not shifting the definition. Look it up (ugh, I hate when people say that on the internet, BAD SPEEDY!!!). They're really both guides for our use, built in different ways. We may value one over the other, but that doesn't make them not both guides for our use.

Hey look at it this way at least none of you guys are trying to sell a FF #1 4.5 ow/w. GPA data is me off to no end. With in reason a 4.5 should be going for more than a 4.0 as long as it is did not fall out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

Pages quality, upgrade gambling there is still a reason a 4.5 is graded higher than a 4.0 :frustrated:

GPA hasn't updated any sales I have completed on HA Make an Offer to Owner. Very disappointed. They were record sales for All Star books sold. IMO the AS books from 1-8 are very low because they didn't update the GPA site though HA can verify the sales.

Guide != record of actual sales

It's clear, it's just not correct. I mean, if you want to define guide as "a group of people make up numbers," then that's cool, and you're right, GPA is not that. Unfortunately, that's, shall we say, your own special definition of guide. :foryou: If you want to go with a more widely accepted definition of the word, then whether it's people making up numbers or people noting actual sales doesn't really matter. They're both offered as guides for us to make our comic valuation choices.

And I'm not trying to be a pedant. I really think they're the same thing and haven't yet seen an argument to the contrary, aside from changing the definition...which again is cool if that's what you want to do. "Do your own thing," as Brother Malcolm said. lol

I don't see anything remarkable or strange there. The last two 4.5 copies that sold had OW and C-OW pages. The last two 4.0 copies had OW-W and W pages. It makes a difference. Also, dealer sales will normally be higher than auction sales. As others have mentioned, the 4.0 copies may have had upgrade potential, which can make a huge difference in realized prices.

You can cry human error, but I don't see it.

Everyone ignored the facts above on the better Page Quality of the 4.0's, especially the White Pager. FF 1's have a White cover = better page quality usually means a whiter, brighter cover. This translates into a more desirable book. Without pics of all the books, I have no trouble believing the 4.0's were more attractive and justified better prices.
