Completely agree.  Owning a few pieces of original illustration, it's shocking how much better the original art looks in hand compared to the cover.  This is a good example:

Read the Black Lizard reprint of Robert Edmond Alter's "Swamp Sister" (Gold Medal s1095, cover by Mitch Hooks) on my flights to and from NYC this weekend.

Great descriptive narrative getting the feel for the swamps. He only wrote a few but this was a boiler and understand the reputation now.

Having lived about the swamps for 17 years now I tell you I would not be doing what this kid Shad was doing for 80k × 10

Finally landed a copy of the Phantom Digest PBO of Day Keene's "Hunt the Killer",  pictured with a minty copy of the Harlequin edition with the repainted cover art. A tough pair to say the least.

I'm only one book away from completing the Phantom run and wouldn't you know I'm missing "Deadly Lover",  the only one with a Raymond Johnson cover!  (P.S. PM me if you have a spare!)

In today.  Does anybody have a list of which Murder Mystery Monthlies were originals?  I know this is one of them for sure, and a couple of the Woolrich books, but not sure on any others.

Excellent book! This one and "Five Sinister Characters" by Chandler and "Borrowed Crime" and "If I should Die Before I Wake" by Irish for sure are the important ones.  Don't remember if "Finger Man" is a first. That would be a top pick as well.

Finally able to display the elusive "Reefer Club" digest, the 3rd usage of the famous "" cover that I recently acquired.

The uncensored original Intimate Novels #32 is on the left. Intimate Novels #32 with the physical publishers censor sticker at the middle. Uber rare Stallion Books #213 on the right. I believe there was one other usage of the censored cover, on a digest magazine version.

When I first started collecting vintage paperbacks, I was a bit of a Juvenile Delinquent, so naturally, the JD books fascinated me and is still one of my favorite genres to collect  So much rare, cool, valuable stuff in that bucket

Ah, so that's why the cover was censored.

A Richard Powers cover to both  'No Time Like the Future' and  'Beyond Infinity'.

I also acquired 'Shot in the Dark' (my favorite cover of this batch) with a cover by Herman Bischoff. The book includes a who's who of sci-fi and fantasy authors with H.G. Wells, Edgar Allen Poe, Robert Heinlein,  Isaac Asimov, Murray Leinster, Leigh Brackett, Jack London, Theodore Sturgeon, and Ray Bradbury among others.  The final book of my recent pick-ups is 'The Explorers' (1954) by Kornbluth, also with a Powers cover.

Those are some beautifully presenting Janson books!  Those New Fiction / Gaywood books are particularly tough to find in nice shape!
