Which 2 are "Slab Worthy"

7 posts in this topic

Going to the NYC National for some "On-Site" Grading. I only have a budget for 2 Bronze Age candidates and was looking for advice on which 2 out of the 4 listed below. If you could also give an assessment on the potential grade, it would be helpful.

(Be Warned! Very detailed scans could take a few seconds)

X-Men 98

http://www.cyrstudio.com/x/x98.html

Major flaws - 1/8" nick on spine and one color breaking crease near staple.

X-Men 101

http://www.cyrstudio.com/x/x101.html

Major flaws - Both upper and lower right corners with some very small creasing

2 Printer's creases on the back cover

X-Men 104

http://www.cyrstudio.com/x/x104.html

Major flaws - Some slight creasing and the lower spine and partial thumb print

Daredevil 158

http://www.cyrstudio.com/x/dd158.html

Major flaws - Both corners on spine with crease or blunting

Glue splat on lower back cover (not holding book together)

Thanks for the help!

Hmmm...well all 4 issues have quite a bit of flaws that would keep them from hitting 9.4 and above. I would say they would grade between 8.5-9.2.

My opinion would be to slab the 98 and the 101. Those hold the most value.

I tend to agree. What do you think those 2 would get?

M&M,

I agree with Death. Nice books, but 8.5 BA books aren't going to blow your skirt up -- I suggest leaving them in Mylar and going back to the well for your grading candidates . . . 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

All are in pretty nice shape, if you were to slab any, I would go with the X-Men 101. Honestly though I would take Ds advice and pretty much sit on them for a while, because from what I see in your scans I dont think the X books would grade any higher than an 8.5.

The "well" is gone dry for high grade Bronze. I was hoping to take advantage of the On-Site quickness and avoid mailing costs and transit. All advice so far will be seriously considered. Thanks!
