Total value of all CGC graded copies of All-American 1-60

14 posts in this topic

I did an experiment to calculate the total value of all CGC graded copies of All-American 1-60. I scanned in the guide values as text, pasted them into Excel, did the same with valiantman's census report, and multiplied the two spreadsheets. 45 minutes later, I got the values below (filling in meaningful values where none were listed in the guide). Not very interesting as such, but I do think it would be interesting to correlate the CGC census with other databases, such as values, circulation figures, and age.

The table (far) below shows the total guide value for the census population of

Action 1-100 and Amazing Spider-Man 1-100. The first row shows the total number

of submitted copies grouped by grade along with the sum of their guide values.

Since Action 1 skews the values a lot, both the sums for 1-100 and 2-100 are

shown (two last rows).

According to Overstreet, the value of the 894 copies of Action Comics are worth

$2,301,509.50, while the 21,739 copies of ASM are worth $8,844,778.20.

I haven't figured it out yet so I just used a screen capture. I've seen other people use nice tables (Arty's census of Church books, for example). Please let me know if you find a good way to do it.

How do you do the screen capture?
'Print Screen'

Just right of F12

Plus you would have to open up a program like paint and paste the capture into the program. Then you save it as a jpg and voila! yay.gif

I use Excel all the time for work (and comic analysis). How do you copy the screen (or a chart) into this thread?

From Excel, all you have to do is copy the data you want. Then open MSPaint and paste the data you just copied. Useful when copying large portions of data.

You can use the "Print Screen" button, but that only copies the data you can see on your screen. If you have a long list of data this won't work.

On either method, you then just adjust the image how you want it. You can add in color or highlights as you desire. Then save it as a .jpg file.

No, no ...never save excel screencaptures as jpg. poke2.gif

Use .png instead. Its just a fraction of jpg file size with perfect quality (lossless) . headbang.gif

If MSpaint doesn't support that file format, download irfanview...it's a great freeware program.
