1 post in this topic

We just sold a CGC certified Apparent 9.4 (Slight Professional) restored copy of Marvel Comics #1, from the famed Allentown Collection, for $111,000.

Featuring the first appearance of the Human Torch plus the origin of the Sub-Mariner , Marvel Comics #1 is one of the most popular and valuable early Golden Age keys, ranked as #5 according to latest Overstreet Guide listing. It is also the first comic book ever published by Timely Comics, the company that would later become Marvel Comics. The book also features the introduction of Ka-Zar, Angel, Jungle Terror and Masked Raider. This popular and in-demand comic book is approaching its 75th birthday, having a cover date of November, 1939.

This Allentown copy is the nicest known and highest CGC certified restored example of Marvel Comics #1, tied with only one other one at Apparent 9.4. The slight professional restoration includes small amount of color touch on cover, tear seals to cover and cover cleaned. The next highest graded restored copy is an Apparent 9.0 and only 2 universal 9.0 copies exist.

The book is characterized by exceptional color strike, perfect centering, tight staples, sharp edges and corners and phenomenal off-white to white pages. The Allentown Collection was unearthed in 1987 and features 136 high grade Golden Age books, many of which are the nicest existing copies, including the world’s finest known example of Detective Comics #27.

If you have any comic books to sell or consign, do yourself a favor and contact Pedigree Comics or check out our website at http://www.PedigreeComics.com. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, concerns, etc. about how to get the most amount of $$ for your treasured books, either by sale or consignment, please contact Pedigree Comics' CEO and President, Doug Schmell, at (561) 422-1120 or (561) 596-9111 or by email at DougSchmell@pedigreecomics.com. We have been involved in the sales of more high grade CGC graded Silver Age Marvel and DC keys, either by purchase, brokerage or consignment, than any other dealer and we keep all calls and information confidential for your protection.

Consignors maximize their profits selling in our Grand Auctions, more so than on any other auction site or auction house. We do not charge a Buyers Premium, an amount that most bidders take into consideration when bidding in other sites (the bidders simply deduct that Buyers Premium amount from their final bidding price, meaning less $$ to the consignor and more to the auction site). The higher the value of your book(s) that sell in a Grand Auction, the more $$ you take home under Pedigree Comics’ Climbing Scale. We consistently set new sales records for Silver and Bronze Age comics in each Grand Auction and on our regular site inventory. Grand Auctions are unique and exciting, with new and diversified, top-rated CGC material in each event. Why settle for less by consigning with someone else?

Prospective consignors can also upload their own scans, item information, descriptions and reserve amounts for the upcoming June 2014 Grand Auction, commemorating Pedigree Comics’ 10 year anniversary, by utilizing the Automated Consignment System. It is actually very easy and fun to do. Just register onto the site, click "Customer Page" under "Your Account" and then click "Consignments" (under "Auctions"). You will then be able to enter the Pedigree Comics Consignment Management System and upload your own CGC certified books and magazines. We will receive an email notification automatically once you have uploaded the information and we will then review the information imparted for accuracy. The item(s) will then be added to the June Grand Auction to be bid on. You will be amazed how simple it is to utilize the Automated Consignment System.
