Atlantic City Boardwalk Con, May 14-17, 2015, Atlantic City, NJ

109 posts in this topic

Atlantic City is dying a slow and inevitable death due to dwindling tourist numbers. But that doesn't mean it won't try bringing commerce back to this seaside city.

The ATLANTIC CITY BOARDWALK CON is convention being hosted in May 2015. Apparently, Marvel will be setup there along with a few other guests. Details are still pending but it's sounding like a fun con.

It's nice that they're starting off small...

A FOUR DAY CONVENTION!

In Atlantic City? A single 6-foot table costs $1,400. Who in their right mind is going to spend that kind of money for a comic convention in Atlantic City?

There will likely be the New York Special Edition show right around this time, as well as Wizard World Philadelphia THE WEEK BEFORE! Unless they're hoping big-time dealers stay in the area and do these shows back to back...

Atlantic City is a PITA to get to from Manhattan or Philadelphia. There is no train line from New York/Newark or Philadelphia -- you have to transfer -- and a bus would take hours.

I just want to know who is bankrolling this fiasco.

Takes about 2 to 2 1/2hrs from NYC to Atlantic City. From Philly to Atlantic City is less time. You can take the Chinatown buses for a roundtrip ticket around $15 or $20 in the city so it's not that bad.

I went to the Boston Comic Con and took a 4hr bus trip to get out there. Depends on how badly you want to go and what you're willing to deal with to get out there.

I guess...

It's just that, you go to Boston, and there's BOSTON. A great city, good food, good bars, a good walking town (or T town). You go to AC, and you're there to gamble. There's really nothing much else any more.

(And I thought they shut down all those Chinatown buses because of safety concerns.)

And with Philadelphia the week before, and you live near there, are you going to both shows?

It just seems poorly planned out.

Well, it's a 10 x 10 booth at AC. But you get just one table with that. It's still a ridiculous amount of money.

I know it is a high price for a first time con in a failing Atlantic City, but I heard a rumor that Marvel Entertainment is backing this one up. I heard a couple of months back that Stan Lee will be there

We will be setting up there, It is also the same weekend as Motor City (we will be there as well)

Greyhound leaves the Port Authority just about every half hour, and with the casino bonus it is almost free. Take the 10 AM bus and you'll be at the show by 1PM.

If the casinos support this, it might work out pretty well.

The Port Authority Bus Terminal has different direct to casino buses. Follow my notes and you won't get lost.

Academy buses - lower level in the back of the "second" building (40th / 41st street entrance). Buy ticket at the bus gate # 1.

Greyhound buses - 1 level down in the "first" building (41st / 42nd street entrance) for the greyhound ticket purchase line.

OR

2 levels down in the "first" building, you can buy a ticket using the self serve ticket machine at the bus gates # 79 / 80 via credit card. Sometimes the ticket machine runs out of paper and becomes useless forcing you to go to level 1.

Tickets usually run $45 round trip with a $25 credit to use at a casino. Depending on the schedule, the bus drops you off at different casinos. That casino will give you the $25 credit. The credit expires in a few days if you don't use it.

The buses can get full on the weekends but it's a quick 2.5 hour trip once you get pass the tunnel into NJ. Coming back may take 3 hours.

Port Authority is scummy so watch your back and your wallet.

Amtrak is faster but more expensive.

Cheers!

N.
