Most milestones/keys in a year?

39 posts in this topic

Was talking to my wife earlier (ie. boring her to death with comic talk) and brought up the question of what comic has had the most milestones/first appearances/keys over a 12-issue period. For instance, if a kid back in the day were to pick up a 12-issue run which one do you think would have the most significance. I'm not necessarily going by monetary value, say Action 1-12, but more in the vein of true continuity/universe building significance. Here's my choice but I'd love to hear your all's:

Fantastic Four 45-56 - first Inhumans, Silver Surfer and Black Panther along with maybe the first big galactic threat of the Marvel Universe, Galactus.

Thoughts?

Amaziing Spiderman 121-129 was a great run of key issues in such a short time period.

That was one of my final three choices. I also had X-Men 131-142 in the running.

Forgot to mention that in that Fantastic Four 45-56 timeframe you would've also had Reed and Sue getting married in Annual #3

showcase 4 -22

flash, challengers of the unknown, lois lane, adam strange, rip hunter, green lantern

That's a good choice. Wasn't thinking along the lines of books published twice a month but that could tip the scales.

That's a 3 year run.

I thought I was bad with time, but some people in this thread...

My 12 issue run would be Detective #27-38.

Fewer more important 12 issue runs in comics.

First app, classic cover, origin, drug cover, Robin.

Nothing else even comics close, even Action #1-12.

Maybe Marvel Mystery #1-12. Maybe.

Avengers #52-60 and Annual #2.

1st Grim Reaper (#52), Black Panther joins the Avengers (#52), X-Men crossover (#53), 1st Ultron (#54-55), classic Buscema cover (Annual #2), 1st Vision (#57), origin of both Ultron and Vision (#58), 1st Yellowjacket (#59), wedding of Hank and Jan (#60).

Who needs a whole year?

Even though there are only 8 issues (#2-9), the 1962 calendar year for the Fantastic Four was a busy one:

#2-1st Skrulls

#3-1st FF in costumes

#4-1st Silver Age Sub-Mariner

#5-1st Doctor Doom

#6-1st Doom/Subby Supervillain team up

#8-1st Puppet Master

Not a bad year.

Hard to argue with the Showcase run though.

Actually the run would have to be Fantastic Four 44-up, since FF annual #3 took place between FF 43 & 44.

The early 60s, maybe?

Here are books that were on sale from March 1962 to February 1963 ...

Incredible Hulk 1

Fantastic Four 5

Amazing Fantasy 15

Fantastic Four 6

Journey Into Mystery 83

Tales to Astonish 35

Journey Into Mystery 85

Doctor Solar, Man of the Atom 1

Magnus, Robot Fighter 1

Amazing Spider-Man 1

Fantastic Four 12

Tales of Suspense 39

Fantastic Four 13

Always interesting to have a look at a few covers again.

No doubt DC 27-38 is the best run ever. But if we had to break it down to each age Id go with the following:

Golden=DC 27-38

Silver=FF 1-12

Bronze=X-Men 129-141 (13 issues)

Copper=NM 87-98

Modern=WD 1-12
