Another article on the subject and future of Spider-Man. The Verge

In fact, as of late November, executives were planning a "Spidey summit" for January to discuss future plans.

:o

I was in a business strategy meeting all day. So nice to see I popped on and found out there may be light at the end of the Spidey tunnel.

Since this involves a number of the Spider-Man movies (and potentially some Marvel movies)...

Venom Or Carnage Could Be Main Villain In SPIDER-MAN - SINISTER SIX Team-Up Film

---------------------

In the follow up emal, De Luca explained to Pascal all of the options their Spider-Man franchise had in front of them at that time. He brings up the previously-confirmed deal Marvel Studios offered Sony, which would allow Spider-Man to join the Marvel cinematic universe. To be more specific, Spider-Man would make a cameo in Captain America: Civil War. If the deal was agreed upon, De Luca reports that Marvel would introduce A BRAND NEW SPIDER-MAN. See you later, Andrew Garfield. De Luca seems gung-ho about the cameo. He thinks it could spark new interest in Spidey. Fans would look forward to Spidey's next film without Sony having to make a Sinister Six film just to put fannies in the seats. Either way, De Luca would be happy with whatever direction Marvel president Kevin Feige chose for the Webhead.

That's all based on the deal with Marvel actually happening, but as of right now we know it hasn't, and De Luca addressed that grim possibility as well. Wisely, De Luca proposed another Spider-Man reboot, but this time, it won't spend a lot of its time on Spidey's origin or his parents like The Amazing Spider-Man films did. De Luca also thinks Venom, Carnage and Hobgoblin would be nice addition to a reboot. He especially likes that the Ultimate Venom because his suit isn't formed from an alien symbiote. He'd like the to explore the modern Spider-Man comic book stories written by Michael Bendis, Michael Strascynski and Brain K. Vaughn.

Please. Marvel path.

Since this spans beyond Captain America: Civil War...

SPIDER-MAN: Details On Captain America's SINISTER SIX Role; Andrew Garfield FIRED?

-----------------

Based on emails seen by Mashable, Andrew Garfield's comments about studio interference being responsible for the tepid response to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 have upset the wrong people, especially as he failed to appear at a Sony corporate dinner in July which would have seen him meet Sony CEO Kaz Hirai and a number of other executives. However, "His absence (with less than an hour of notice) was seen as an affront and slight by the company's Tokyo bosses," according to the site. As a result, he's been effectively fired as talk of a new Spider-Man began in October.

-----------------

"I love introducing pp [Peter Parker] in cap but I know it comes with so many things since we won't give them what they want what will we give them? We can say it's a cameo but I'll bet it's more and will involve some of his world and it will be peter and spidey right," Amy Pascal said in an email to producer Matt Tolmach at one point, questioning how Spider-Man might fit into Marvel's longterm plans.

Even more interesting though is a memo Pascal wrote to herself with issues they would need to take up with Marvel Studios if Sony were to agree to their rebooting of the character in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. "if we have spiderman in cap 3. what is our fee and our back end. need -script approval, casting approval of sm and aunt may and consultation of mays house in queens and any other spiderman locations we may need in future movies. also approval of new spiderman costume> how long is he is the movie? how closely does it follow the civil war story line? does the world find out who spiderman is? are there any other characters from the spiderman universe they are using? can we use one of the marvel characters in our future spiderman movies not produced by marvel.can we use cap to set up ss? can drew work with the russos to get this done? are we renting him out?"

-----------------

And here we thought Marvel had little to no interest at this time.

And here is the Latino Review article referenced.

Marvel Wants A Fresh Start

----------------------

The 60/40 split still looks to be the divide with Sony handling distribution. However, Marvel's not inclined to give Sony creative control over the character, nor planning on honoring the contracts with Sony's Spider-Stars. More poking into the origins of the Aunt May solo film and Female Spider movie rumors revealed that these were actual Sony Picture Entertainment plans that Marvel knew about and severely disliked. Now that Marvel can have the rights to the character back, they plan to wipe the slate with the Amazing Spider-Man universe.

----------------------

So the Aunt May movie was for real, no matter what Sony said before being hacked.

----------------------

IF the Marvel/Sony deal were to go forward, Andrew Garfield would no longer be Peter Parker and any baggage from existing films, Raimi or Webb, would be non-canonical, Marvel doesn't want any part of those films. The idea is that the Spider-Man romance movie has been played out over five installments, so any new Spider-Man films would focus on the difficulties of being a teenager and a superhero with a romance side-story, not the film's focus.

----------------------

Very interesting.

Since this is where the news first hit, and then so much came out afterwards, here is even more extensive details how much Sony wants to put into Spider-Man.

Sony Has (Surprisingly Not Terrible) Plans To Reboot SPIDER-MAN... Again

---------------------

Robinov then goes on to discuss the main purpose behind his e-mail: the reboot of Spider-Man. He compares Spidey to James Bond and surprisingly makes a lot of sense: "In the next Spider-Man movies, we can’t go back to his origin story. Think of the 25 films in the James Bond franchise; just because a new creative team comes aboard, and breathes new life into a classic property, doesn’t mean the origin story has to be retold." Now, wouldn't that be a welcome sight? A Spider-Man film without the retelling of an origin story we've already seen twice in the past 12 years. Robinov follows this up with a long list of potential directors for the hypothetical reboot featuring a ton of familiar faces:

Brad Bird

Edgar Wright

David Yates

Damien Chazelle

Glenn Ficarra & John Requa

Phil Lord & Chris Miller

Colin Trevorrow

James Gunn

Chris Buck & Jennifer Lee

Joe Cornish

Don Hall & Chris Williams

Joachim Rønning & Espen Sandberg

---------------------

And how about Kraven's Last Hunt for a next movie?

---------------------

I might suggest looking at what is widely thought to be the most beloved Spider-Man storyline of all time – “Kraven’s Last Hunt” – which ran across Amazing Spider-Man #293-294, Spectacular Spider-Man #131-132, and Web of Spider-Man #31-32. (In fact, Comic Book Resources polled their readers in 2012, and this storyline was voted as the single greatest Spider-Man storyline of all time.)

In it, Kraven the Hunter tracks down Spider-Man, shoots him repeatedly, and leaves him for dead, buried underground. He then dons a Spider-Man costume and savagely starts attacking criminals.

What makes this story resonate with fans is that it proves it takes more than just the costume to become “Spider-Man.” No matter what he’s wearing, or what predicament he’s facing, Peter Parker is sensitive, passionate, and connected to those he’s interacting with in a very powerful way. It’s not Peter’s powers that make him special – Kraven, and every other superhuman in the Marvel Universe, all have powers. Peter is special because of his values, because of what drives him, because of the lessons he’s learned from Uncle Ben’s death, and because of his love for Mary Jane. I’ve pasted a few pivotal pages from this book so you can see just how intense this storyline is.

We also get to see how Mary Jane deals with Peter’s disappearance, and how she would react if Peter ever died in action.

Looks like the Sony hackers are bringing some additional gifts to light.

'Sony Hack' Reveals AQUAMAN Director And FANTASTIC FOUR/X-MEN Movie Plans

-----------------

Michael De Luca, co-president of production for Columbia Pictures, told Sony boss Amy Pascal that they should be trying to emulate what 20th Century Fox are planning on doing with the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises; a giant team-up movie! His source? Writer and producer Simon Kinberg. "[simon] Kinberg told me fox is steering Xmen and Fantastic Four into an eventual team up film," De Luca revealed, confirming a long standing rumour in the process. It's unclear when all this might go down, but you have to imagine it will be at some point in the next few years with The Fantastic Four set for 2015 and X-Men: Apocalypse on the way the following year.

-----------------

Jeff Nichols is seemingly going to direct Aquaman, the 2018 movie starring Jason Momoa. Nichols' credits include critically acclaimed releases like Mud and Take Shelter, and he actually seems like the perfect fit for what you have to imagine will be a visually very distinct movie.

Now THIS would be super news. I think Avi Arad has caused more harm than good with the Spider-Man franchise.

RUMOR: Marvel And Sony To Talk SPIDER-MAN Next Year; Kevin Feige Wants Avi Arad GONE

---------------

Also, despite protests from Pascal and others at Sony, Feige wants Avi Arad nowhere near this new take on Spidey, something which should come as a huge relief to fans of the character.

---------------

According to Screen Gonzo's sources, a meeting is set to take place between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures in January, with Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal among those present. They believe that we'll get some "good news" by February, an indication perhaps that Sony are finally giving in and allowing Marvel to take over the Spider-man franchise from at least a creative standpoint.

---------------

So it shouldn't be too long for us to find out how true this is. And maybe with the financial impact from this hacking, Sony will be even more motivated to work with Marvel Studios.

When I read that article about the email where Feige said not to bring Avi Arad along, it sounded like reality this could be coming together in 2015.
