Angelina Jolie Wanted By Marvel Studios To Direct CAPTAIN MARVEL

------------------

Anyway, their sources have apparently told them that Marvel Studios were so impressed by Unbroken that they're offering the actress turned director a whopping $20 million to helm their first female led superhero movie. "Having female director is a priority for them. She never thought she'd be in such huge demand as a director, and to be courted by Marvel after the Sony fiasco is a huge pat on the back."

Ummmm... If she takes the offer, any credibility she has earned as a serious drama director will be out the window, due to Academy envy over Marvel's successful mainstream franchises.

I'm betting she passes. She's a smart girl. She knows Tomb Raiders/Mr.&Mrs. Smiths only get you so far and at this stage of her career, I gamble she's looking for respect and legacy* now.

*Why Ben Affleck is playing Batman is still a mystery to me though after all his recent critical acclaim as a director. He'll pay dearly if he chooses to direct again from the Academy*, during voting season.

*Don't say "I don't care about the Oscars" either. It's not our club, it's theirs. The popular mainstream actors/directors love to close their careers holding at least one gold statue indicating they did something of meaning and not for the money from their fellow filmmakers.

I'd be extremely surprised if that happened. Marvel is all about getting directors that'll play ball (Ant-man for example). From everything I've read on Unbroken, the studio did some serious edits to make it commercial. I really can't see her falling in line with the Marvel way.

Michelle Rodriguez Addresses "Rumors" She'll Play JUSTICE LEAGUE's 'Green Lantern'

The actress has now released a video statement via Facebook to clarify her comments, making it clear that she had no intention to offend, and expressing her desire for Hollywood to stop taking white characters and forcing them to fit another culture. Instead, she would prefer to see characters of another race have their own mythologies built around them.

About that whole superhero thing...

"What I really meant was that ultimately at the end of the day there is a language. And the language you speak in Hollywood is 'Successful Franchise'. Instead of trying to turn a girl character into a guy, or a white character into a black character or Latin character, stop being lazy. People should make an effort in Hollywood to come up with their own mythology!"

Warner Bros. CEO Says DC Films are ‘Edgier’ Than Marvel

--------------------

“The worlds of DC are very different,” Tsujihara said today at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference (per Variety) “They’re steeped in realism, and they’re a little bit edgier than Marvel’s movies.”

“The key thing,” he says, “Is that the movies and the television shows and the games, everything looks very different… you have to be able to take advantage of the diversity of these characters.”

Unlike Marvel’s approach, Warner Bros. has been experimenting with multiple live action adaptations of key properties. “Gotham” can exist on FOX in a world separate from the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice while Grant Gustin can play a small screen Flash with Ezra Miller stepping into the role within the company’s big screen universe.

“The big franchises are becoming more and more valuable,” Tsujihara continues. “You don’t have to explain to the consumer what a ‘Batman v Superman’ is.”

RUMOR: Chris Pine Is Once Again Linked To GREEN LANTERN Role

-----------------------

Last month, Latino review's El Mayimbe said he'd heard Warner Bros. had settled on a new actor to play Green Lantern in the DC Cinematic Universe, and that it was looking like it would be the John Stewart incarnation of the character. Well, now he's offered an update, and the name he's heard "floating around" is Star Trek actor Chris Pine. "The name I keep hearing & floating around, is Chris Pine for Hal Jordan. Yes, Captain Kirk. Again, this is still just a RUMOR hence UNCONFIRMED. Been hunting this one for a while so the search is still ongoing."

Is Common Still Interested In Playing GREEN LANTERN?

-----------------------

"I would love to be John Stewart and play Green Lantern. That was one of those things where I was so excited because we rarely see African-American superheroes or people of color as a superhero. I think it would be great for the world to see, and for people to see, and for Hollywood to put that out there, too. But just for the world to see, just for kids to be able to see, for all nationalities to see a person of color as a superhero, too."

"Plus, it’s just for the fun. Even the pre-production of getting the ‘go’ and studying Green Lantern. John Stewart is from Detroit, so he was this guy that was really for the community, and I really related to that. He used his powers to help people in the community. I was like, ‘Man, I’m going to be John Stewart, the Green Lantern!’ Unfortunately, it didn't’t happen at that time. But maybe the possibility is that it could. I would love to."
