I don't like it at all. It has nothing to do with comic books, and has no place here, in my opinion. I can guarantee you that had this been the norm when I first got here (and it wasn't -- the avatars were all comic related when I first arrived) I wouldn't have stayed 2 minutes. The comic avatars gave me a first impression of people who were interested in the books. That helped me decide to stay. Once I started reading the threads, I knew there were a lot of worthwhile subjects being discussed (and some not so much, but that's to be expected) and a lot of people I wanted to get to know better. I would never have found that out had I opened a thread only to see a bunch of avatars showing half-naked, or spread-eagled women.

I arrived two months after you and many of these avaitars were already floating around... I understand your position.... But again, they don't bug me nor will they keep me from reading a interesting thread......

I know my post was in response to yours, but that's just because it was the last note. I wasn't trying to argue with your position; I was just trying to state mine.

 

If it doesn't bother you, that's fine. It bugs the heck out of me. And it's so prevelant now that I can't just avoid certain threads, as I did in the past.

 

It didn't happen all at once. When i first got here, it was all comic avatars. Then some guys switched to pictures of women. Then they got progressively more bare (including full frontal at one point). If the trend continues, the spread shots won't have clothes, because it's always just one increment racier than the last. There are millions of places on the web to get your fill of this stuff. This forum is about comics. Do you really want little Donut Hole seeing that when she does a Looney Tunes puzzle?

I agree with both of you.....and since were the only 3 women on these boards maybe we can appeal to the boys to maybe cool it a little. It is starting to get a bit ridiculous. So hows about it fellas......switch those avatars to Betty, Veronica, Phoenix,She-Hulk,Supergirl,Wonder woman,Dazzler....you get the point! Prove to us that chivalry is not dead....... smile.gifgrin.gif

Sorry for the confusion. I post a daily puzzle in another thread, and Flying Donut's wife (Mrs. Donut) and little daughter (Donut Hole) like to put the puzzles together. She can see the avatars just like anyone else.

Mrs. Donut is right behind me. The Donut Hole is my 2 1/2 year old daughter. As much as I'm sure she appreciates the stunning beauty of a spread-eagled Aria Giovanna, this isn't something she should even begin to understand. My 7 1/2 year old son, who LOVES Joanna's puzzles, has asked me several times about the pictures on the board.

 

I'm probably the last person in the world who wants to see some "censorship" - but come on guys, show a little tact. Put the Tupac avatar back up. At least then I had something I could explain.

That's fine, let them search the porn sites for it. No one is trying to curb the lusty gaze -- it's simply innapropriate here, that's all.

 

"Do as I say, NOT as I do" The avatars are hardly what I would call porn. Do you wear a G-String to the beach Joanna? Somehow I don't think so, and that's OK, but what about those that do?

 

Anyway, don't get me wrong about what I'm trying to say here. I hadn't thought about it, but what you were saying about first impressions is a VERY good point. I might have passed on these boards had I seen a bunch of half-naked women for avatars too!

 

That said whatever happened to all the "bad" girl comix? blush.giflaugh.gifgrin.gif

Avatar changed! I guess I never really thought about children viewing this forum until I heard about Little Donut Hole. After seeing regulars hitting up this place, you begin to think that the board is like a spot to kick it for all of the regulars. I wouldn't want my nieces or nephews seeing this stuff crazy.gif
