Amazing Spider man 129, Werewolf by NIght 32, FF 48, Conan #1

So the 1st are 3 I purchased off ebay in the last day or two. The Conan I purchased here.

 

I thought it might be fun to try and guess the grades based of pictures from sellers vs my pictures when they come. I think pictures can be deceiving i think this could be interesting. The Conan #1 is a scan and I will just post what the sellers picture because I actually feel quite good about the grade. It may be the only I don;t scan because I think this grade is from someone who probably knows exactly what CGC would give the book. Thus it is not helping me in my grading skills .

 

Then all the pre pressed graded vs after pressed grades. If you are not interested I understand. regardless I would really appreciate anyone who could detail why they are assigning the grade they are. I think it will help me learn to look for defects and how much said defect would knock off a grade. Regardless I will keep updating the thread as it all progresses.

 

 

 

All books will be sent to Joey then CGC. I may skip Joey for the FF 48 due to EBay refund policy. I feel like I overpaid on the WBYN #32 ( i never thought it was a 9.0 as described), but I really wanted it. I enjoy raw books, but the Amazing Spider man is not high enough grade to be a permanent member of my collection. I am just rolling the dice on it. It appeared to my untrained eye that it my press and end up being a book worthy of keeping (ie great eye appeal).

 

I am worried the FF 48 will not pass my eye appeal test either (I am weird). I love white pages too, I can;t explain it. Seriously lets say I was looking at 8.5 Silver Age 1 with ow pages and with White pages. I would probably be will in to sped 10-15% more on the white pages.( for older books) I have been told this stupid countless of times, but I can not help it.

 

The only reason I am going to CGC the other books (FF 48 was explained) is to work on my grading. I will also attempt to learning more about how to detect restoration. I Have a hard problem grading lower tier books and anything above a 9.4. Not to say I am great at the other, honestly I am not even good but I do feel more confident. I would also like to learn how to tell which books will press out the best.

Note the Conan #1 looks better than all of the books

 

My guessed based off the pictures

 

FF 48 7.5

WWBN #32 8.0

Conan #1 8.5 (maybe 9.0) I think it looks good

 

Amazing Spider man I really have no idea Ill go 5.0-6.0

 

I think scans should be mandatory for anyone to sell a raw book!

ASM5.0 WWBN 8.5 Conan 7.5 .I compared the Conan to the FF to get that grade

Asm 5.5; Wwbn 8.0 and Conan 7.0. After a press, I think you might grab a grade on the Asm and the Wwbn. The FF 48 has most likely been pressed. Good luck!!
