So I'm heading to my first Con in 20 years & I have Questions !!!

...1st I know I plan to hit the dealers up and CGC's Booth up. I've never comfortable mailing books so I plan on just doing the turn in at the con....

I believe they ship the books back to Sarasota anyway. They do not personally escort them there, so they will still go through the mail system. If you send them yourself you have the ability to pack them however you want. If that is the part that makes you uncomfortable then letting them take care of it is probably better.

Hi Giff, hope you have a great time.

Most dealers take credit card but you may be able to drive a slightly better deal when paying cash.

This is true. Cash is king, and when making deals and the buyer's paying with a credit card, I'll take that into consideration. It's not a huge difference, but on a $300 book, that's close to $10. That stuff adds up.

Also, you are more likely to get a good deal at 3 pm than at 10 am.

Now, if it's a hot book, you'll probably want to buy it when you see it. But if you're buying a pile of common silver or bronze stuff, I tend to give a much bigger discount near the end of the day (especially if it's been slow).

All great advice except for the pay sticker price -who does that!

I'd also suggest:

1. Hit the cgc booth first, lately they've been reaching their max limit earlier and earlier. Besides it frees up your load so you don't have to lug the comics around while shopping.

CGC doesn't have a "max limit" on the number of books they take at shows - what you're thinking about is slots for on-site grading (which is limited to the materials CGC brought to the show), but even at on-site shows CGC will take an unlimited amount of books for regular service back in Florida.

Yep, my bad, thanks for the clarification. Though they do get saucy towards the end of the day and I prefer the more alert, gentle, patient hands receiving my books than the harried, exhausted ones at the end of the day. I'm always afraid that's how 9.8s might become 9.6's.

If it makes you feel any better, CGC uses custom bubble wrap bags for the books which are then packed inside a cardboard box with more bubble wrap. This box goes inside a heavier, outer cardboard box which has bubble wrap around the sides & the edges. It's a pretty safe way to ship - in all my years of subbing books at shows, I've never had them gotten damaged when shipped from a show to CGC.

Griff,

I just shot an email to Ken at Cloud 9 asking him about bringing GA and here's his response:

"I'll have 3 short boxes of nice books and 2 boxes of lower grade/cheaper books that will be 1/2 off. So, 5 short boxes total. Thanks for checking in with me & forwarding on the info. "

Hope you have a great time.
