The Silver Age Spectre... murderer of millions!

58 posts in this topic

I just purchased a couple of reader copies of JLA 46 and 47 (1966) and I had to laugh at this panel...

The Spectre just squashing millions of innocent people!

Gotta love the 60's. :)

There is no God in Marvel Comics. There are god-like beings but no one capable of doing what the Spectre could do. The Spectre is (was?) the most powerful being in comics. Holding two earths at bay was child's play for him.

I too would chuckle at these things when I was a teen-ager.

"What the heck is that?" lol

Superman also blew out a sun in the story 'the super-super-superman'

Anyone know what issue that's from? I'm trying to track it down

I want to scan it so everyone can read the coolest but most ridiculous story DC ever did

It's an uncanny story-Curt Swan used all kinds of crazy perspectives/foreshortening he never used in any other story

It's a stand-out story on many levels

God, the rea,l true Christian God, appeared in a Ghost Rider story, early on. I think it was while still in the Spotlight books, before getting his own title.

God is obliquely mentioned in a few early Marvel Comics.

A Lee / Kirby FF I recently read had the Watcher saying something like, "There is One who is more powerful than all, and his only weapon is love", or something to that effect.

I seem to remember Sue Storm thinking, "Please God, don't let Ben die" in another Lee / Kirby FF.

And so on.
