Warning ooo.gif You are not guaranteed to get the same grade on a reholder. A 9.9 would be very dicey on getting the same grade. Can you tell if the comic has been damaged at all? Even a very minor color fleck or scratch on something like this will knock it to 9.8 or even 9.6. If there are any broken plastic bits inside the holder I would try to VERY GENTLY shake them out to prevent any further damage.

You need to arrange with your seller to compensate you for re-holdering AND any loss of value for a drop in grade. Or if he will take a return, let the seller worry about sending in for a reholder and tell him you will still buy it at the same price if it comes back 9.9 again.

The biggest expense (and danger for further damage to the book) is all the times the book would have to travel back and forth in the mail. A 9.9 can easily suffer enough damage inside an INTACT case to drop to a 9.8 or 9.6. In a broken case it is even riskier.

Also check if it was insured. I'm not an expert on filing postal insurance claims (never had to file one - knock on wood), but I think it is insured against damage as well as being lost.

Good luck.

PS. Just noticed you said you got it through UPS. Are UPS packages automatically insured?

I thank you so much for all the replies.

I have emailed the seller and now I'm just waiting for a reply. I was under the same impression that if the case has a crack, chip, or scratch then one can req the re-holder service.

"** Re-Holder Service is for a chipped, scratched or cracked holder that has not been opened or had its seals broken. We will place your comic in a new holder."

Now I do have one question, when it states that this does not qualify if the seals were broken. What seals are those? Can someone explain please...I have closely inspected the case and the corners and I can't see any evidence that it was cracked all the way open. In regards to the broken plastic bits inside there is really only 1 right above the book on the left side by the spine. And all of the rest of the small bits are along the sides not above the book. Is the comic book inside another plastic chamber as well? I ask because of that plastic particle on it...

There was insurance placed on the box according to the seller and the description on the auction. I really hope to fix this, because I was really excited earlier this morning on my way to the UPS center to pick it up and then when I opened the box I just got really sad. frown.gif

One last thing, I'm heading to Orlando this weekend for MegaCon and I remember reading that there is a CGC office here in FL, what city is that? Could I walk it down to the office myself and have it re-holdered while I wait? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I had to have a Golden Age book reholdered about 6 months ago because I saw a slight crack in it and when I went to CGC they put it in a new holder no problem, they are very good there and as long as it didn't damage the book you should have no problem.
