Here's the thing about adding Tec 225- it precedes SC 4. If we consider Tec 225 SA then it's the first SA book.
It is really the first silver age DC ! how can it not be? ....... and here we go.....

...it was a stirring of the waters......the first drop of rain, if you will..... GOD BLESS...

you can't have the B & B 28 ahead of SC 22--that's just not right.....

BB28 is ahead of SC4 - that makes no sense ....

I think the locks in order should be:

- Showcase 4

- Showcase 22

- Brave and the Bold 28

- Adventure 247

Then some mix of: Tec 225 (if one considers it silver age), Action 252, Showcase 34, BB34, and Flash 123.

Then one of: OAAW/Flash 105/Action 242/Tec 359/BB54 (or 60 if you think that is the first teen titans)

1. SC4 (No brainer)

2. SC22

3. BB28

Those are the top 3 easily IMO. SC22 and BB28 are neck and neck but I give SC22 the edge because it predates BB28 and BB28 has no origin story while SC22 has one of the best of the SA and is a slightly tougher book.

4. Flash #123 The book reconciled the GA/SA for DC and the principles from this book are still pertinent to DC up until today. Book literally shaped the universe. It also helps it might be the best DC SA cover.

After this there are a ton of books I have a hard time ranking.

Tec #225 if we consider that SA, Adventure 247, SC6, Action 252, OAAW 83 and BB54/60 would be in my top 10.

1. SC4

2. B&B28

3. Showcase 22

Those were easy ... this part is hard:

4. Adventure 247

5. Action 252

6. Action 242

7. BB54

8. Showcase 34

9. Adventure 260 (or Showcase 30)

10. Showcase 17

I can't put OAAW 83 in there. Incredibly tough book, yes, but Rock just not a relevant character today, especially as war books fade into the sunset and superhero books continue their juggernaut-like march into greater pop culture.

Hard not to find space for Tec 359 in my top 10. Give her slot #11 I guess.

BB28 is not only the first appearance of the JLA, its success basically started the success of super-hero team like Avengers etc. With all due respect SC22 is just GL's first appearance. It doesn't have the same greater significance in comics history that BB28 has. I still love SC22 and it certainly is a top 5 comics for DC SA.

It's from 1955...it's "Atom Age"...late GA, pre-dating what most consider SA

Not that Overstreet is gospel, but their top 10 DC:

SC 4

B&B 28

SC 22

Flash 105

JLA 1

SC 8

Adventure 247

GL 1

SC 9

OOAW 83

The next 10?

Action 252

Superman's Girlfriend Lois Lane 1

SC 14

Action 242

SC 13

SC 6

OOAW 81

SC 1

Sugar and Spike 1

and a three-way tie for the final spot:

Challengers of the Unknown 1

SC10

SC17

I don't have a copy in front of me, but I believe Tec 225 pre-dates what they consider the 1st SA issue of Tec. I don't think the value has tanked, just fell outside of their SA parameters.

They have the top books pretty spo on. That's pretty clear what they are.

But personally I think SC34 is a more important book than many of the ones further down.

Well, since I've never been a supporter of Showcase #4 as the birthplace of the Silver Age, especially considering DC was still publishing several Super Hero titles at the time, I've narrowed down my choices to the following:

1. B&B 28

2. Adventure 247

My list:

SC 4 happens to be here but only since it's the first appearance of the Flash since the Post GA it's not the first SA book- I'm with JJonah on this one- DC's superhero books were alive and well when SC 4 came out and I'm willing to bet this book didn't have the impact people give it since Flash didn't get his own book until 1959. Nevertheless, it's in my DC Top 10:

1. SC 22 (Green Lantern was the most popular DC SA creation during the SA)

2. BB 28 and Adventure 247 (the LSH was as popular as JLA then and this book will return to its rightful place- see 1980s - also scarcer than BB 28)

4. SC 4 - 1st Flash since post GA and scarcity places it here

5. Flash 105 (this is where Flash picks up speed)

6. OAAW 83 - DC War books were huge then and the Rock is to War comics what Superman is to the superhero genre.

7. Action 252 - Ask yourself which would you rather have if you own BB 28 & SC 22- 1st app. of Supergirl or either Green Lantern 1 or Justice League 1 (which for collectors unable to get their 1st SA apps. might be the preference as a consolation key- something that sometimes challenges SA DC key collectors - the "2 for 1" requirement for completists- 2 for 1 comes into play for SA DC collectors and has an impact on the top 10 SA DC keys since it can influence a collectors strategy- Marvel SA key completists have this problem with Spidey- AF 15's rise in price has made ASM 1 a consolation key for those that cannot afford Spidey's 1st app.)

8. SC 6 - Kirby's DC SA contribution- first original SA creation- first SA team- First DC hero creation to get its own book- influences Kirby's FF 1- this book has so much going for it- unfortunately, it needs a movie to catch the attention of the much more knowledgable collectors out there who are stocking up on Adventure into Fear 19s right now.

9. Justice League 1

10. Green Lantern 1

Honorable mention:

SC 17- take a look at Overstreet's list for top 10 Sci Fi books- Adam Strange's first appearance is on the verge of becoming number 1- maybe this year? I've considered this book for number 10 - maybe next year?

SC 9 - this book demonstrates the popularity of the Superman titles during the 1950s - Lois is the first DC character tried out in SC who gets her own book- a sure thing for DC at the time and another reason why SC 4's impact was less influential - the Supes, Bats, and WW books were popular- they never went away and survived Wertham's challenge.

Please forgive me- writing from an iPhone 3 (yeah- they still exist)

Let me be honest... for me BB28 is the clear number 1 DC just like AF15 is the clear Marvel number 1.

The only real rival is SC4, but the fact that it is not even the first appearance of the flash bothers me... and the first SA is in doubt too... But gotta love the cover.

I think this thread (like all others like it) waxes and wanes between people's personal valuation of a book based on its historic value (whether it be contribution to the medium, start or end of an era, famous artist/writer, first of a kind, prototype, etc) and the financial value of the book.

The latter is a much clearer, cleaner and simpler exercise and really doesn't leave "much" room for debate.

The former is fraught with circular discussions and disagreements that will never be solved. Including the rehashing of arguments or relevance of information that is largely accepted outside of small circles or someone's personal perception.

Anyway, here are my top 10:

SC4

BB28

SC22

Flash 105

Justice League 1

Green Lantern 1

SC9

Adventure 247

SC6

Action 242
