Let's talk about Ultraverse variants.

How can you tell the difference between the Silver and Gold variants?

The Silver one is silver and the Gold one is gold.

They are holograms though right?

All (or most) of the #1s from 1993-4 had hologram variants, and all of them, with the exception of Ultraforce #1, had silver AND gold versions. The golds have been very rare on the market until someone came up with them on eBay by the name of ewp13legendom, and they've been selling various rare Ultraverse books for the past year or two.

The rarest one was Prime #1 Gold, but the other golds have been just as tough. I suspect that ewp13legendom found the remainder from Ultraverse's Malibu days and has been parceling them out slowly since then.

Another quite rare book is Break-Thru #1 Silver (Ultra 5000). The book was impossible to find. It's still quite rare, with only a single copy for sale right now (at what I consider a very reasonable price.)

Another rare Malibu book was Battletech:Fallout #1 hologram.

Lots of tough variants from this era.
