Num3rs episode use of FDI fractional dimensional index to spot comic forgeries

WTF Is FDI fractional dimensional index?

It's a measure of jaggedness of a perimeter, related to a guy named Mandelbrot (and Hurst).

If you measure a coastline, with different resolutions, you get different results, depending on the how precise the measurement instrument. They can use that technology to measure approximate edge lengths in art strokes, and compare to forgeries (in this case).
