HERES a dream scenario:

if u had the chance and the available dollars would u rather buy capt tripps FF cgc'd run ie 9.4 or better or go for superman 1-10 in cgc 7.5 all issues

Ouch are we ever on a different wave length.

My least favorite Main stream Marvel Titles and My least favorite Mainstream DC hero. I would have to say the FF run if forced at gunpoint. Some of the Surfer Covers and stories are cool. tonofbricks.gif

Nothing's wrong with me. Superman will always remind me of Jhettero Heller (sp?) from L. Ron Hubbard's Mission Earth Series IE the Annoyingly perfect boy scout who has the depth of a droplette of water.

As for the FF, the only thing cool about the FF is Doctor Doom. I mean Mr. fantastic and Sue Richards have crappy powers, Johnny is the petulant whinning teenager you want to smack into next week. Ben Grimm is pretty cool but not enough to garner interest. I've read the 48-5 whatever storyline with Galactus and the Surfer, which was ok. The "This man this monster" story was Ok too, but I really never got into the FF.

Guess I'd rather have the choice between the First 10 Batman Issues and the first 100 ASM's

you can have your opinion. I was kidding.

But don't say Sue has "crappy powers" - she, by far, is the strongest member. Read Fantastic Four 245. You'll see what I mean.

I can't remember FF245, but isn't said that she has the most potential. She isn't really the strongest, but could be. Her powers are very similar to Green Lantern, based on will power. In times of duress her powers could either increase or wane based upon the situation. If she was fatigued that would reduce her effectiveness. IF she felt her family was in mortal danger her power would increase.

I'd go for Supes. It'd impress people more..........

I'd go for the FFs because I think they're probably worth more.

If it turns out that I'm wrong about that, I'd go for the Supes.

I wonder what would go for more. There's only one slabbed Supes #1 7.5, and only one copy graded higher at 8.0.

So, just for the ones where I estimated the values, we're at $516,500. And that leaves the bulk of the collection unvalued.

If you value the Superman 1-10 in CGC 7.5 as follows:

Superman #1 $350,000

Superman #2 $18,000

Superman #3 $8,000

Superman #4 $7,000

Superman #5 $4,000

Superman #6 $3,000

Superman #7 $2,500

Superman #8 $2,000

Superman #9 $2,000

Superman #10 $1,800

So the value of Superman 1-10 in CGC 7.5 would be approximately $398,300.

I'd take the FFs hands down.

I wonder what would go for more. There's only one slabbed Supes #1 7.5, and only one copy graded higher at 8.0.

Superman 1 7.5 probably would, although not by a lot, i.e. multiples of an FF #1 9.4. Didn't Lauterbach sell a Superman 1 CGC 7.5 last year? Anybody remember the amount?

Didn't Bechara pay $275K for the Church copy of Superman #1 in 7.5? I know it had a dot of CT to it, but still.

I don't recall hearing the amount--was it really that much? I thought he bought it a while back prior to CGC. Back in 2000/2001, I thought the most ever paid for a comic was $265K for the Allentown Cap 1 CGC 9.6.

I went back and checked. He paid $240K for it, which Steve Fishler said was too much. It is an 8.0. So my $350K estimate for Superman #1 is way too high, and makes the case for choosing the FF run even more clear.

Where did you check? Did it say how long ago he bought it?

I'd be surprised if that book hit $150K today, unless the restoration is extremely slight and removable.

There is an old thread on the boards. I used the search function.

Do you remember who said it was $240K? I found the post from Fishler, but he didn't mention a price, just that it was too much. I saw one from Aman saying $240K, and one from Aardvark88 saying he read an article in CBG saying it sold for $180K in 1996. I glanced back at an old Overstreet, and #26 (the 1996 edition) says it sold for $170K--could that be $180K with time payment interest? confused-smiley-013.gif

Oh, and can somebody look at the 2004 Overstreet to see if they report the sale price of Lauterbach's Superman 1 CGC 7.5? I left my Overstreet at Kermit's house when I went over there to look at those Rabbi books. Christo_pull_hair.gif

The FF 9.4 to compare against is the CGC 9.4 copy of #1 that sold in 2002 at the Mint's only online auction for around $110K.

Ah, excellent! I suspect an FF #1 CGC 9.4 could go around $120K to $150K today, so it looks like Superman 1 in 7.5 has a slight edge.

I expect the edge starts to tip to FF's in 9.4 from #2 on up. I know Mark Wilson bought the White Mountain FF #2 CGC 9.4 in 2001 for around $25K and then sold it to Schmell a few months later for some higher amount; I don't think a Superman #2 in 7.5 would go for that much, would it?
