Kate Beckinsale Returning for 'Underworld 5'

Kate Beckinsale is back for more Underworld action.

The actress has signed on to reprise her vampire character, Selene, in the fifth installment in the franchise from Lakeshore Entertainment and Screen Gems.

Directing the movie is Anna Foerster, who has done second-unit work and was Roland Emmerich’s right-hand woman as the director of photography on such movies as The Day After Tomorrow and White House Down. This is the first time that a woman is directing the female-led action-horror franchise. (Her hire was made before Tuesday’s report by the ACLU that took studios to task about gender inequality in Hollywood).

Glad to hear she's back.

I wasn't sure Theo James could hold a solo movie himself.

The last movie was freakin' hilarious. She spent the whole movie chasing after Scott Speedman's body double to not even find him.

Maybe they should get him involved (dumptruck full of money), because that 'quest' was really lame and it will definitely hurt this outing if not properly resolved.

Underworld TV Series Still In The Works

“Yes, there’s been a lot of conversations and even development on what that series would be,” Wisemen told Collider. “It’s really appropriate for television, in terms of how those characters can really tie in, but also become something new. It’s really an attractive space. I don’t want to put a date on it because then that’s going to be printed and it might not happen in that timeframe, but it is a thought.”

Screen Gems Unveils Official Title For UNDERWORLD 5

Kate Beckinsale's fifth adventure as the Vampire Death Dealer Selene will be titled Underworld: Blood Wars.

Co-producers Screen Gems & Lakeshore Entertainment made the announcement earlier today on the film's official Facebook page. Anna Foerster (Outlander) directed the feature, which wrapped principal photography earlier this year, with a -script from Cory Goodman (The Last Witch Hunter). Joining Beckinsale are Theo James, who reprises his role from the previous installment, Tobias Menzies (Outlander), Lara Pulver (Edge Of Tomorrow), Charles Dance (Game Of Thrones), Bradley James (iZombie), James Faulkner (Da Vinci's Demons), Oliver Stark (Into The Badlands), Peter Andersson (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit), Clementine Nicholson, and Daisy Head (The Syndicate).

The film will arrive in theaters just in time for Halloween on October 14, a week ahead of the Tom Cruise-starrer Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. There are also a few early rumors circulating that suggest a sixth film with Beckinsale is already being planned.

Kate Beckinsale On New Female Underworld Director: She's Fantastic

There are hints that it expands upon the ever-raging war between vampires and lycans with a new generation of characters. Previously, it was titled “Next Generation,” but the film was retooled with this latest moniker, hopefully giving promise to some nasty on-screen battles that the franchise is known for.

But what’s also exciting about this next iteration of Underworld is that a woman is at the helm. This is a first for the franchise. Her name: Anna Foerster. In an exclusive clip from Larry King Now, Beckinsale informs Larry King that Foerster is “fantastic” and she sees no difference between Foerster and the franchise’s last four male directors.

Underworld: Blood Wars Gets New 2017 Release Date

The newest iteration of the fan favorite series sees the return of star Kate Beckinsale in the role of vampire Selene and is officially titled Underworld: Blood Wars. The film was originally announced at CinemaCon and was dated for October 14th of this year. Since then the date has been pushed back, with the film now opening on January 6th, 2017 (via Box Office Mojo).

No reason is known for the push back, but other films opening in the same time frame include Kevin Hart's new stand-up film What Now?, Tom Hank's Inferno, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (starring Tom Crusie) and Max Steel.

Most of those movies have been utter snooze fests.

I was completely bored by the first one, which had too much exposition about the history of the vampires and werewolves. Couldn't be bothered after that.
